Loud squeal at 4 am (of course)

4 am ... .... we were awakened by a loud squealing sound I thought was the gas leak detector, wrong. Very hard to tell where the sound was coming from. Finally narrowed it down to the stereo. (surround system actually works even with stereo OFF.) Pulled the fuse marked "Stereo" ..... of course ... labeled wrong. Went outside for a screw driver to remove stereo from cabinet. Not long enough to reach recessed screws ... back to toolbox ... seriously considering using a hammer ..... remove radio, disconnect power and sit on floor enjoying the silence for a few minutes.
I will be replacing it with a car radio in the blank panel above it a possibly using the space for storage ... possibly a wine rack. (no comments Festus2)
Just to clear things up ... it was not the alarm funtion of the radio.. it just went crazy!!!!

COLOR]
Hank -

Now, how would I know that a wine rack would come to your mind right away? Great idea. Go for it! You might also consider forgetting about the radio and adding more racks.

Sorry, the devil made me do it.

We use to have an emergency weather band on ours that would go off any time of the day and squeal even with the volume down so we just shut the speakers off and then did not care what it did. If we wanted to listen to it we just hit a b or c when turning it on.

This was a squeal with speakers on or off, radio on or off. Some of the very expensive components must have shorted and sent some RF to the speakers. I was never satisfied with the radio performance so this is a good excuse to replace it. I just want to know why these things always happen when you are sound asleep??????? The little RV gremlins must wait till they can get the best effect.
