its the wheel

for those of us with cast wheels here is something to make your day. we have had a tire leaking down, even before we got rid of our st tires. I always check my tires before we roll somewhere so I could judge the leak. it has been getting worse. so I took it off and the tire place found it this time. it is the wheel. now to see if the extended warranty will make it up on our 2011 3912lev? so if you have aluminum mags and one leaks check the wheel too

Interesting, I will monitor this to see what happens. Good luck with the warranty try. What is the brand of wheel?

Porosity is a known issue with any type of casting especially steel and AL. I use to see it all the time when working with castings. The only way to resolve this casting flaw is either to change the pattern, redesign so the material will flow better and chill slower or use a chemical induced sealer on the parent material. The Porosity is still there and the casting can still fail through this casting flaw but it is seal against leaks of any types.

This is why I still order stamp steel wheels painted white or clad in some form of chrome covering, may not look the best but no casting flaws. Thirty years of working with and designing castings and forgings for earthmoving machines.

thanks

I was wondering how well the aluminum wheels would hold up? here is the wheel after its third blowout on the power king power towing tires. I also will never use st tires. lt tires have a higher speed rating

After my first and only tire blow-out I replace them with Michelins XPS Ribs for my 318 SAB 5er. These are an all position tire, my size is an LT 245/75R/16E rated for 3,045 LBS which is more than adequate for my needs.

i used firestones

I wished I had used the 245/75s. however I haven't had problems with the 235/85s. the tire shop I used recommended them. they are great so far. but your size has about the same ride height, I didn't think about that when we got em. I had 235 on the brain. if they don't make it up and they want a chunk of money those buggy wheels are looking good then

Will they replace all four wheels or are they only replacing the one wheel with the porosity in it? Have you had the other three wheels checked for air leaks? Also see if there are serial or manufacturing numbers on the inside of the rim flange under the tire. This could tell you if the wheels all came from the same batch when manufactured.

there are 6 wheels

im just going for the one the extended warranty will only cover a defect.. the other rims hold a constant pressure. if I start having problems with the other rims I guess I will have to worry about that then. if I do im thinking buggy wheels and nice hub caps. I want dependability not fancy rims

first of all a special kudos for bankston motorhomes. these guys are local I checked to see if they would honor my extended warranty and they did. the place I bought my rv from was in Anniston and they don't accommodate full timers in their service. I got my new rim and there was no charge. now to give it a couple of weeks and check all the tires.
