Carlisle Trail HD Cracking?

I put on Carlisle Trail HD tires just over 2 years ago to replace the stock tires. At the time, I thought they were a good option over the Trailer King tires. I went from a load range C to load range D. Now, they look like they have some exterior cracking. Does anyone have the same issue?

Take it to a tire place and talk to them.

'
No matter how expensive your tyre is, the day you notice those damaging cracks on the sidewall, you should start contemplating about purchasing new tyres. Cracks on the sidewall occur because over time the oils and chemicals in the rubber compound, that so long kept the tyre intact, gradually evaporate or break down due to over exposure to UV rays of the sun. Also over time, the rubber loses its tightness and cracks begin to appear.
Cracks on the sidewall indicate that the tread is now drying out and giving way.'

regardless of what has happened to others, get with an expert.

The part that I don't understand, is that these are roughly 2 years old. I have 8 year old tires on a car that don't have cracks.

I purchased Cooper ATS tires on a truck and 3 had cracks after less than 1500 miles and 4 months. By all accounts those were good tires also. I got new ones at no cost. New tires held up fine. Maybe something wrong with tires made that month? Mine had the same date code. Whats the date codes on those tires and are you using max psi?

I'll have to check the date code. I remember that it was a few months before they were put on (installed around August 2017). I run 65psi (max) and monitor with TPMS (TST).

I see that your location is Austin, Texas. The sun intensity in that area can destroy tires rapidly. Have your tires been protected from UV rays and kept out of direct heat during storage? I'm not suggesting that it's "your fault", rather than circumstances may have led to this condition.

At this point, the tires are "essentially not trustworthy" and need to be replaced. You may find that Carlisle warranty will cover a portion of the cost or they may refuse based on your location and storage conditions. Your tire dealer is best equipped to help you make that determination.

I'd suggest, if storage conditions contributed to this issue, that you try to improve how you protect your tires from the sun's heat and UV exposure.

We have Carslis on the trailer for a couple of years and no cracks. As a side note, bought a new F150 KR in '09 and it came with Pirelli Scorpions. Three months later the sidewalls near the rim started showing cracks. Back to dealer and they said "it's normal" Me? I said if it's normal and FAILS someones going to have tires for lunch that day. Fast forward 4 years and over 50K miles and no issues. Replaced with identical tires and same results, cracking sidewall and ran 5 years and and had close to 45K on them with no issues. Last set I put on were Coopers, just because we put less than 5K a year on the truck now and couldn't justify the cost.

I have been putting 303 on the tires every 3-4 months. The sun is pretty intense here. The front of the trailer is showing it after 4 years.

When I purchased the Carlisle tires, I took off the Trailer Kings that were about 2.5 years old. I didn't see any noticeable cracks on those tires.

Don't really matter if your tires were purchased two years ago. If they sat on a retailer shelf for 17 years they may be older than you think. There is an oval on the tire side that has four numbers in it and this is the DATE CODE. First two numbers are the week of the year they were made and second two were the year. A date code 2315 means 23rd week of 2015. You might want to check the date code. Glad I don't live in the unbearable heat of Austin!

Marcus,

We'll be leaving the mountains in the morning headed back to TX where my trailer is. I put Carlisle HDs on it in 16 I believe. I'll check for cracks when I get back (probably day after tomorrow). It was part of my checklist for getting ready to go to FL anyway....plus, they're getting close to needing replacement.

The tire model was introduced in September of 2016. The oldest possibility for these tires is 3 years.

Ok, don't look at the date code. Introduced? Does that mean they made the first one in 2016?

Post caused me to check our HD's closely. DOT date is 50-2017. No visible cracking. We keep the tires covered when not camping and use 303 when we wash the Cougar.
So far so good.

We are home and I ran out to the storage facility to check the tires; no cracks of any kind an look as good as the day I bought them. I will say that they are not exposed to sun except for about 6 months a year traveling. I would be talking to the dealer I think.

In the picture, I see the crackes in a ring of sidewal.
That ring goes on in the laminated part with the large letter E in it, so i think beneath that hidden cracks

Can be by storing wrong( before sold, not by you) or something to hot in the vulcanisation proces, last proces if making the tire).

To low pressure would give damage on other spots, mosly cavaties under the treath at te sides.

I did a tire, brake inspection about 2 months ago and no problems seen. I just wanted to mention I have 225/75/15 E HD Carlisle tires on my trailer psi at 80. build date on all 5 is 0916. Ever trailer I have owned, that I remember I have upped the load range or old school ply tires just to have more extra reserve in wt and maybe a longer lasting tire. This trailer came with "D" tires at 65psi. If your 14 wheels can accept a E rated tire, if it were me that is what I would go for in any brand you buy.
Edit: check the wheel before buying tires for higher psi.
