TST Repeater

I pull a 35' Keystone Montana with a 2019 F-350 short bed 4x4 do I need to have a repeater hooked up or not. I just purchased a new TST 507. with flow through valves and it comes with a repeater but I was tat it was not needed if I was pulling anything less than 36'.

it’s so easy to install the repeater you may as well just install it…you can mount it inside the battery compartment one wire to + and one to -…i bought a cheap little switch for mine so i could shut it off between trips without haveing to disconnect from the battery

On our 2022 HC 295RL- 34' long: installed repeater and just leave on all the time. Is there a reason to have a switch to shut it off other than parasitic drain.
Thanks

Install it. When I purchased the new (at the time) color monitor they sent the repeater that went with it. I asked them why and they told me that the receiver in the color monitor wasn't as strong as the old one. It's easy to install, at the batteries, + and -. Add cutoff switch, clips on the ends of the wires or ??? Trying to "guess" at what length it works; it's OK for 35' but not 36'?? I wouldn't put any stock in that and just install the repeater.

I hooked my repeater up to the trailers light circuit. Since I always tow with the lights on, it works....no parasitic draw.

I pull a 34 foot fifth wheel.. with the original TST 507 I did. It have the repeater installed.. I did experience intermittent loss of signal from time to time on one or more of the tires..

Upgraded this year to new TST 507 color and got the repeater.. zero drop outs..repeater mounted inside hyd pump/battery access door panel..

The parasitic draw that repeater is not worth worrying about..

The TST-507's power consumption is minimal. The system uses up to 100 milliamps when transmitting data packets or about 10 milliamps when the repeater is in standby.

I mounted it in the battery compartment and tapped into the wiring of one of the dock light switches. It's on all the time when I'm on battery or plugged in. I called TST and asked if there's any problem with the repeater being on 24/7 and they said absolutely not.

You may not need the repeater, but I didn't want to take a chance on any interference creating a problem. And if, for some reason, I need to cut it off, I can pull the inline fuse to the repeater.

Length of rig doesn’t make or break if you need a repeater.
Try it without if you like and see how fast connection is made and maintained.
Many things between inside truck back to wheels can cause interference.
The repeater is like a signal booster actually.

You can mount it under the bottom of your rig and run the wires up inside front bay and attach to a 12V source with alligator clips. It doesn’t draw much power so if you didn’t disconnect it your batteries won’t be sucked down. I’d disconnect for storage.

I surface mounted my repeater under the neck of my 3650Rl beside the hitch mount and connected it to the power in the junction box inside the hitch box.
Works perfect with no drop out.
