I thought I'd seen it all....

DW spotted this yesterday in a rest area, I-64, Kentucky. I immediately thought of one of Jasin's Youtube videos. I'm guessing this is what's called doing the best you can with what you have.

wow lol.. looks like they removed the engine..probably has the “frunk” filled up with batteries and additional storage…i’m sure that’s gonna get a state troopers attention in some states …technically it’s still a motorized vehicle being towed i guess based on the registration.

my wife would walk right past me like she didn’t know me if i pulled up with that attached to my truck …or have me committed lol

and she pretty much goes along with anything…but this? …nope

Well fellers....Seen lots of things but not that setup. IF it had an engine in it I would assume that Ford bumper would be on the ground. Even if it doesn't have it in it that's a lot of weight sitting on that homemade tongue. One trip over one of those launch ramps they build on bridge in LA and I suspect one would just be towing the front A frame sans camper. Wow! And, I guess they just use that homemade tongue jack to set it up??

Yeah, I’d say his 60/40 front to rear weight ratio is way out of whack. I’d love to see some scale numbers on the actual tongue weight.

Kentucky?
Having camped in several campgrounds there this spring, why does this not surprise me?

Hmmm...1/2 ton truck, no WDH or sway bars. That's got to feel real good on bumpy roads. Even with no motor what do you suppose the loaded pin weight is

You gotta hand it to someone, though, for creativity. "We can't afford a trailer but, hey, we've got this old class C with a blown motor. All we got to do is..."

But the salesman said I could tow anything on his lot with my F150 so thought what the heck it ought to tow this beauty just fine. Here hold my beer while I hook 'er up!

If anything I'd guess it's tongue light. Those style class C campers are front end light to begin with. Remove the engine, transmission, front suspension, radiator, grill, and who knows what else and I doubt the tongue weight is very heavy. It would be interesting to know if they spent the monet to install a toad brake controller to activate that rear axle and how it tows with those duallys. I bet a tight turn (like backing in) would put a lot of stress on that suspension.

I don’t know about that. By the looks of it, there’s only about 4-5’ behind the axle and 18-20’ in front of it. The back is typically cargo area and the water tank. They could offset some tongue weight by loading up. Looks like the generator is still installed up front, if it still works they probably put gas in the tank to run it. I’d like to see the inside. I’d be willing to guess the driver/passenger seats were removed (they don’t need them) and something else built in. Either way, it’d be interesting see what the weights really are.

I can't see behind that hatch door to see a generator so I wouldn't make that assumption. What I can see is the stove vent in the back. A lot of those style RVs have the kitchen and the bath over or behind the rear axle. I doubt the rig is tongue heavy as it appears to me like the F150 rear suspension isn't struggling to support it even without a WDH.

This is the first time I've seen this post and especially this photo. Actually, that's pretty creative! It took a lot of thought to do that, no doubt. And to do the welding, creating the tongue and all the other logistics to make this work. From the photo, you can't really determine how much the truck is squatting in the rear, but it looks like there is still some wiggle room before the truck bed bottoms out. So, who knows, maybe this works (at least for the owner).

I don't know how Kentucky determines ranking their vehicles, but if that was in Indiana, the Class C would be licensed and titled as an RV. Removing the wheels and engine and installing an A-frame hitch turns it into a trailer. However, in Indiana, even travel trailers and fifth wheels are licensed and titled as "RV's". So if this was in Indiana, the original Class C was titled as an RV. Nothing changed there when the wheels were removed and it became a towable. It's still licensed and titled as an RV. (Maybe only in Indiana... maybe!) The difference would be in the amount of excise tax one would pay! We don't have personal property taxes on RV's any more in Indiana.

First pic probably speaks for itself 5th wheel fans! Second pic is when a neighbor hired a guy to move out an old single wide from his property and the semi had his wheels on grass (going up a steep uphill grade) and they just spun. Guy had a buddy with an SUV pull the semi off the grass and got him going up the hill.
