Because of this post, I decided to try a change. My original reel is a garden hose reel I purchased from Wall Mart several years ago. It fit snug in my rear baggage door, but it did fit. I used one for the water hose and another one for the trailer electric cord. Then one of them finally broke all apart (plastic you know), and I ended up putting the garden hose on and just rolled up the electric cord the old fashioned way. So, I've been doing it this way for a couple years now.

I did discover reversing the hose and real so I don't have to carry the reel to the water spigot. The reel stays at the camper and I pull the hose to the spigot. I used a couple set of Y adapters with cut off valves on them to connect to make two male ends to connect at the trailer and then a female to female to connect at the spigot. This worked well.

But after posting above, I thought, why can't I take my own advise. Well ... I ordered a new reel and the right male to male adapter for the garden hose to connect at the trailer. I already had the female to female to connect at the spigot.

Here's a photo of my old real. It was just, almost too tall to fit through my outside storage area:

Here's some photos of the new reel with 100 feet of hose on it. It actually sits on the back, the side that should attach to the house. On it's back, the back (working as the bottom now), is really stable. I don't have to hold it with my foot any more. It's marvelous. It's smaller in height (on its back) than my old one, and it's all metal:

Here's the connections to attach everything in the opposite direction:

And here it is inside the trailer compartment:

Here's the one I ordered from Wall Mart, on-line: Click here - Liberty

I am so impressed with this one, I've already ordered a second one for the 50 amp electric cord and the 25 foot extension I have with it.

This reel costs more than the plastic one, but it fits the need perfect. And it's all metal, well built, solid, and weighs in about 11 pounds. A little heavy, but I'll take the extra weight for something that is sold and should last forever!

Anyway, I thought I'd update you since you were still struggling to find a smaller reel. Check out the dimensions on this one and remember, on it's back on the ground, it's absolutely stable as a rock.

Nice set up. It makes it a lot easier for me. The reel I have for water hose is metal and while built. Works great for what I wanted. Let’s me only roll out what I need keeping the rest on the reel inside the camper. The reel I purchased for the cord is also great while built made of metal. What I like about it is it’s not as wide as hose reel.
