Water Softener

I was looking for a portable or hard mount water softener for the 5th wheel. Any suggestions? Brand?

Porttable Waterstick

I would imagine if your fulltiming it would not last long, but what about us weekenders. You can regen it too.

Ok... this is less expensive, I like it. Looks like the same concept as the one at C.W. I will do some research on this. Thanks

SLIMSHADIE, have you done anymore research on the WasteStick? It looks like it is easier to re-gen and use then some of the others. I think I am going to get the bigger WaterStick, shipped to me will be $150.00, not too bad considering CW is about $300.00.

No I haven't Hoffbrew, but for that kind of money I was willing to try it. Its on my mod list which is getting longer. I think it would work good for the weekender like me. If you get it, write a review so we all will know.

Just received the "WaterStick", looks pretty simple to use. Came with a test kit also. I will compare the results with my home kit too. I have a whole house water softener system at home that works great.

Good deal, I thought it would work somewhat, at least for us weekenders. I"ll have to move that to the top of my mod list. Thanks Hoffbrew.

We've got the waterstick. We used it down in southern Utah near Zion etc. with pretty hard water. There were 4 of us, and we still had reasonably soft water at the end of two weeks. Probably should have regenerated a few days before we left. IMHO it's one of the best, if not the best solutions. cost is reasonable, quick and easy to regenerate and uses minimal water to regenerate. And, it's easy to store.

Softening Water

Depending upon what you want, check out my post about Sodium Carbonate in the "Odds and Ends". Yes, there are areas that one will want all water softened. But if you are only wanting softer water for the laundry, or washing dishes, etc., a little food-grade sodium carbonate will be cheaper and easier. If you use water out of the fresh water tank, a little sodium carbonate in the fresh water fill will give you a temporary fix for soft water. Yes, I would recommend a soft water tester to check the mix after tank fill.

I do appreciate a "softer" water to suds up in the shower and shave, but when it's too soft, I don't really like the "slick fish" feeling and never seemingly able to rinse the shampoo out of the hair. By using the sodium carbonate, I can control how soft the water is, and if I want it softer in the laundry, just add some more to the washing machine!

But, the WaterStick looks real interesting if one is going to be in very hard water country for very long!

Ron
