Another Battery Question

Baby step. I want to switch over from the single group 31 12v battery that came with my Laredo to 2 gc2 6v (in series) golf cart batteries. Is there anything else I will need to upgrade, such as the charging system? Or can I just wire the batteries and make the switch.
Thanks for all the great information.
Rick

Your existing converter will charge the two 6 volt batteries as if they were just a larger 12 volt battery. Be sure to use properly sized cables to connect the new batteries together. They make a double size battery box that will hold both batteries and keep all the connections inside. There are ventilation issues to consider if your Laredo is a 5th wheel.

Here is the battery box I used.
Century Plastics: Heavy Duty Battery Box - Holds (2) 6 Volt Golf Cart Batteries

If spending money on decent batteries you might want to ensure you can properly charge them. Flooded Lead Acid (FLA) batteries want an absorb voltage in the 14's like 14.6 or 14.8 etc. Since replacing anyway run current battery down to 11.8 or 11.9 volts then plug into shore power and measure voltage at battery terminals. You should see 13's right away but keep an eye on it you should see a steady increase over the next few hours ending up in the 14's. If not your charger (converter?) is not up to the task.

Additionally this is a good place to get custom battery cables.
