I also have 2 6v batteries and do not use a battery maintainer when the RV is being used during the camping months. The batteries are being maintained either by shore power - when plugged in at campgrounds or by our solar panel when boon docking.
When parked at home, I usually plug the unit in every so often just to keep the batteries topped up by way of the converter and its built-in float charge. If you do plug it in at home, be sure to check the fluid level in your batteries from time-to-time as well.
