Vent covers: how many and what size for PP 3220BH?

Hi all,

I am hating not having access to our Passport 3220BH as I can't just go look when I want to measure the length between tires for x-chocks, or look how many vents and what size they are...
I need to order vent covers (likely Maxxair IIs) and was wondering if another 3220 owner could tell me how many are needed, and which size?

Thank you

There are two vents, one in the main living area and another in the bathroom. Both are standard 14" square. Adding the vent covers is a good idea. I took pics when I added covers to mine last season. I'll try to remember to post them later this evening when I get home.

Also, I forget the distance between the tires, but it is a spread-axle design, so you'll need to buy the extended size x-chocks. They make a big difference though and I recommend them.

Ok, so I now realize I didn't take pics BEFORE I installed the covers, but you might take something away anyhow...

If you happen to be lucky and have MaxAir vents and/or fans, installing the MaxAir vents is a snap. holes are already predrilled and filled with a small rubber plug. Just remove the plugs, install the mounting hardware, then the cover and you're done. Almost most took me longer getting the covers and myself on the roof than it did to mount the covers over our two MaxAir Fans.

Great; thanks VERY much!
Stopped by our dealer on the way home.(they were closed, hehe)
Tires= 15.5" apart mid-way.
Rear steps= 24" wide (will replace with 3 steps like front set)
Couldn't tell the vent count due to snow accumulation, so your answers sum it up.
Now for shopping for parts; my favorite...

Hi, I noticed you have Camping World vent covers. I have had Maxxair's on mine. How do they compare. I'm needing some new one's and was just curious.
Thanks, Mike

I've only ever had the Camping World covers, so I can't really offer up a comparison. But having the covers is much better than not, and we haven't experienced any sort of problems out of them.

We had Maxxair's on our last TT, after 9 years they were still in great shape. For our Passport, compared both the Maxxair and the Camping World in the store. Both mounted the same, the CW covers cost less but appeared to be similar quality so got them. Have only had them a couple of months so cannot speak about longevity.

Here is a stupid question....why do you need vent covers. So you can open in the rain? I have a 2011 2910BH and dont have any on either vent.

Vent covers do a lot more than keep rain out (although in a lengthy rainstorm, that is a saving feature for any bathroom vent). They help keep leaves, pine straw, etc out of the vent and off the screen, they allow for leaving the vents open slightly during travel without having the plastic covers buffet against the steel opening mechanism, they stop much of the sunshine glare from coming into the RV during mid day, but still allow most of the light, they protect the actual vent cover from UV damage, they stop most of the "clanging" during windy conditions when the vents need to be open slightly. For me, the "best reason" is that they help keep the interior cool during the heat of the day when the A/C is running by blocking the noonday heat from hitting the vents.

So which ones I guess is the next question. Black or White or Smoke. I like the Black (http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...nt-cover/29365) but that might go against your comment about still supplying light. What about the "Ultrabreeze" covers.

When I chose the smoke, it was mainly because they looked the nicest IMO. But we did also consider that white would seem to get dirty more quickly and black would get hotter in the sun. Smoke seemed like a good compromise between the two. I don't know anything about the Ultrabreeze covers so I can't comment on those.

This week's "DOORBUSTER SPECIAL" at Camping World is the CW translucent vent cover. Normally $28.99 on sale for $10.94. While this isn't the "first choice" for some people, they are good covers and at less than half the normal price, it's a great deal. On sale from Thursday through Sunday only. The ad says "sale ends 1/20/13"

No, I don't own stock in CW, but a good buy is a good buy LOL

I am so glad you asked that, because I was wondering it also!

I actually like the black...I just added a black propane tank cover. I think anything white shows the black streaks. I will have to do some more research on the "ultrabreeze"

GOOD LORD your stuff in the US is cheap! My Maxxairs were $50/ea, but it would have been the same from anywhere online after shipping.

I look at them as expensive, sacrificial covers for the stockers which actually seal up the vents in case of our wicked summer hailstorms, as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I pick up two at the door buster special price and installed them last week end.
