Members that are fire/ems
Saw htfiremedics thread about the decorations being stolen and couple members answered that they were ff's. Got me curious, how many of us here are volunteer/full time fire and or ems. I'm on a volunteer dept. here in Ohio. I have my level II and EMR. How about anyone else?

Got into volunteer EMS in 1972 and got my first EMT card the next year. Worked 27 1/2 years professionally as a Dispatcher II for Rochester-Monroe County 911 (one of the top 10 9-1-1 centers in the US.) Did some commercial EMS on the side, too. Still active with a small volunteer squad up here in the Adirondacks.

Volunteer Firefighter since 1981. Mostly as an engineer, and ran as an EMT for six years.
Currently more or less retired, but still participate in training drills and serve as Recording Secretary.
The Company just celebrated our 100th Anniversary.

We have two guys in our Volunteer Fire Department that are over 80 years old, sure they don't do much but they are there. Bob joined in the late 40's and Mas in the early 50's. Mas is a ww2 vet and is Japenees and served in Europe. Bob was awarded some kind of award for having more service than any other Fire Fighter in the US by the US goverment. It makes my 4 years in the Navy as a ship board fire fighter and 28 years as a Volunteer in the West Side Fire Department look small. I know one of these days they will have the last call for one of these guys and it will be a sad day.

Was a Captain on a volunteer dept. until we moved further from town. Certified FF2, Jaws of Life Tech. We now have 2 Sons that are on the Dept., the older one (25) is a civial engr. and captain on the ladder truck. 2 years ago he started the junior explorers program. Our youngest Son (now 18), was part of the program and has recently become a member as well. He is a senior in high school. Because of his grades and having been involved in the explorers program, the school board recently voted to allow him to carry a pager during school hours and he is able to respond when needed.
Also have 2 brothers whom are members.

I was patiently waiting for everyone in this line of work to speak up and then I was going to say the same thing as Barney (SAAB) did.
THANK YOU!! I am so glad everytime I have to call 911 and I know caring, qualified people are going to come and see me through whatever ordeal is happening. Makes me feel snuggley.

I am not a Fire or EMS, but my Stepfather was for almost 30 years at Hunter Army Airfield/ Coast Guard Base in Savannah, he is retired now.
Thanks for all that y'all do and sacrifice in your line of work!

I've been a firefighter since 1995. At my current department since 1997. In my other life I'm also an IBEW Local 1 Communication Technician (fancy words for saying I work on alarm and low voltage systems).

I started as a volunteer in Maryland in 1981, Became an EMT in 1982. After I joined the Army I got the chance to volunteer all over the country. I became a Paramedic in 2000. After I retired from the Army I got a job as a Firefighter / Paramedic. I’m currently the “B Shift” Lieutenant in one if the busiest Engine / Medic houses on the East Coast. It’s still the best job in the world. Look down the aisle around Halloween. What costumes do you see? Superman, Spiderman, FIREMAN! We make a difference every day. How many people can go to sleep after a grinder of a shift and say that?
