Confused on tow rating

One tow vehicle (Suburban) I'm looking at is rated as follows:

Dry Weight=5672
GVWR=7200
GCWR=11000

Yet this truck is "rated" to tow 8100 lbs with the 3.42 diff. I don't see how this adds up?

The standard diff is 3.08. Is the GCWR with this diff and they just don't post a higher GCWR with the 3.42?

If not, then from the math I see 11000-5672=5328 lbs. That would be 5328 for passengers, fuel, any cargo in the SUV plus the trailer weight and all it's contents!

How do they get to 8100? Or is this number just BS?

I’ve never seen numbers that were so far off. Where did you get them? Not knowing which suburban it is, I’m guessing a few years old with a 6.0. Trailer Life’s Towing Guide does show 8100 lbs max tow.

Those are from the spec page on the chevy website for the 2012 suburban 2wd
5.3L v8.

It lists tow capacity of 5100 with 3.08 diff.

Question is, does GCWR change with differential choice?

Tow rating definitely changes with diff gearing. That being the case, that’d raise the GCWR.

Those are strange numbers. If the GVWR is 7100, and the tow rating is 8100, I would expect the GCWR to be 15,200.

Looking at other specs around the net, I wonder if there is a typo on the Suburban page.
