Atwood/Dometic furnace

Just an FYI. We are in Bullhead City AZ for the winter. Had the 35,000 btu Atwood/Dometic furnace stop working. As it was still within the warranty period I called a local authorized Dometic dealer. Came out to fix it. Turns out it was the primary sail switch. According to the RV Techs who came out to do the repair this is a very common failure on this particular run of this model furnace. In fact they keep a stock of these switches as they get several calls for the same problem.
Bottom line if your furnace does not cycle past the purge stage and into ignition this is most likely the problem.
If you are out of the 2 year warranty and a bit handy it's about a half hour labour to fix. Switch is about $10 on Amazon.

Just had the repair last week myself. The black square insert trim prevents the switch from opening or closing whichever it is....a tech took box cutters and trimmed out the plastic square the width of the metal switch fin and it freed it up to move. Remove the screws to the black square piece and trim the square out in relation to how the fin positions to it to create the space allowing the fin to move outward toward furnace cover. I had a suburban furnace but the defect may effect all brands the same

Wrong sail switch

My Atwood 35,000 BTU furnace had the wrong sail switch in it. New 2019 HC and furnace was intermittent. We were traveling so first RV dealer replaced circuit card. Did not fix. After getting to our location in CA, I couldn't get anybody to come out for a couple weeks. From experience I tried the sail switch. Original switch from factory had a straight acuator arm. New swich arm was wider at the end like picture above. That was a year ago and have had no more problems. Guess the factory had old parts they needed to get rid of!

New sail switch installed this morning, we now have furnace heat. Took a week for the part to arrive and the service guy showed up and 5 minutes later, heat was here. Factory warranty on the part, and I paid the mobile service call of 40.00. Big shout out to Pat at All About Service RV Repair.

Yea, did the same thing to mine about 3 months ago. I haven't put the screws back on the outside cover yet. I suppose after 3 months its ok now. Think I'll do that tonight.
