Considering Grill Arm Modification

Hi,

For those of you with one of these steel bumper-mounted grill arms. Has anyone modified theirs to swing out more than 90 degrees from the bumper? It would involve cutting out the existing swing stop rod and then possibly drilling some new holes in the hinge bracket to insert a second removable hitch pin. Any pitfalls to this mod that you've encountered and can tell me about before I start cutting and drilling?

For some reason I cannot "insert" pics inline from my local hard drive, so I have "attached" some relevant images instead.

When I used that same grill, I wanted to do the same thing. My thinking was to cut out that round stop bar, and just drill another set of holes for the pin once it swung 180 degrees. I never got to it, as I got tired of going to the rear of the camper to do burgers. The rear was always on the other side of the concrete tire stop, where the ground was least desirable. I re-plumbed the quick connect to use the outdoor kitchen quick connect, and just put the grill on a table. I've since upgraded to a 28" Blackstone griddle that is plumbed for the outdoor kitchen quick connect. I don't use the grill any longer - don't even take it with me on trips now.

I cut mine that's mounted on my 29rkpr. I don't remember if I drilled another hole or not.

I replaced the Aussie grill with a Weber 1200. Modified the grill mount by adding a piece of plywood to it for the 1200 to sit on and use bungie balls to hold the grill in place.

Modified the Weber 1200 with a quick disconnect so I can connect to the trailer gas supply.

There is someone who posted on the forums here that type of modification but also made it "extend" out further iirc. Try searching the modification forum.

The one that came with our passport swings about 170 degrees putting me at the edge of my awning. Not sure what brand it is but I can post a photo of it and maybe it might be easier just to change the bracket.

Thanks for the replies. Any relevant pictures would be entirely welcome. If anyone’s experiences can save me from doing something potentially damaging and irreversible to my grill bracket , they would be welcome too.
