What is this?

People next campsite are in an '06 Copper Canyon. They bought used last month, and are trying to figure out what this is:

Says: Shear-Loc-U.S.A. On bottom of handle 5/16 thread.

Awning? TV mount?

Shear-loc is a company that makes thumb screws, we buy some from them.

Manual awning, so I'm thinking not that. I think it is some type of travel lock. Thanks for your reply.

Do they have a residential fridge? Looks exactly like the travel lock for my Samsung.

It's the do-hickey that holds the thing-a-am-jig in place.

That was my thought in regard to the awning.
To give you a clue, measure the length and look for something that long/deep with a 5/16" nut welded or speed clipped on it. Awning, TV mount, chair, grill mount all come to mind.

It's probably black or at least darkly colored

They found it in the owners packet with all the paperwork. They don't seem too worried about it, didn't say anything this morning. Oh well, off to fun with the grandkids!!

After you throw it away, then you'll find out what it was, and that you needed it.

My guess would be a locking knob for a roof mount bike rack. While our "Ford Accessory Rack screw knobs" aren't quite like that, they are very similar and lock the two bars together that go around the frame near the spokes to hold the bike upright in the wheel chocks. Ours is has a key lock on the knob and are about 5.5" long. They are 8 mm (metric), not 5/16" (SAE) though.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Since they haven't come over for any further information I guess they will have the next 2 years of full timing to figure it out.

Looks like the bottom lock knob for a TV swivel.
