The awning rail is a "C" channel aluminum strip. The awning fabric has a small "rope" sewn into the seam. That "rope" slides into the C channel to attach the awning to the trailer. While it "should never have happened" occasionally the C channel will get "twisted" or "bent" and open the gap just enough for the rope to slide out. It's not a "technically difficult" task to reform the opening by clamping the sides a little to close the slot slightly. Your dealership should be able to fix it with just a few minutes of repair time.
