Water softener and filter help please!

You guys are going to get sick of me...
OK, the RV water softener and the separate water filter arrived today. The installation instructions are sketchy and I'm not finding anything to help on you tube. Could someone take pity on me and walk me through the install process?

Here are the links for the items he has. The Camco TastePure filter goes inline to the city water hookup. The RV-Pro Softner could go inside or out, maybe some else will chime in.

When we built our current home, we installed our water softener and permanent filter. We bought a water conditioning system, a water softener and a self cleaning permanent filter. The instructions that came with the filter said to install it AFTER the water softener. The reasoning is to allow the softener to "condition the water" and remove the large contaminates, then use the filter to remove any remaining contaminants as well as the majority of the sodium left from the softening process.

These are whirlpool products, but I'd imagine the "plumbing theory" would be the same regardless of brand or application (RV or S&B)

I don't want to take this too far off topic, but there are some softeners (mostly those from Sears and big box stores) that use a disk-based flow control valve that does not handle sediment in the water very well. A filter really needs to be installed before this type of softener to reduce problems if the water contains any sediment.

Culligan Gold Series water softeners have this same type "flow meter" to measure how much water has flowed through the conditioner. That's one reason we didn't go with Culligan this time.
