Spare tire carrier

Move the spare from the rear bumper to under the front of the trailer today. $35 for the tire carrier off of an E350 van which lets me use the truck's jack tools to raise/lower the winch. I had most of the steel in the scrap pile. About $50 for the entire project.

That's a neat setup. I wish I could do the same, but I'm already over my tongue weight.

I was just sitting here thinking "where have I seen these pics before?" And then I realized you posted them over on powerstroke.org I like what you did and am really considering doing this to mine as well.

Do you have any better pictures of the install? I would like to free up back bumper space for a bike rack.

The Cross Roads Cruzer line of 5ers have the spare under the front of the trailer.

Also Lippert sells a wench for that purpose. http://store.lci1.com/spare-tire-win...able-p100.aspx

My Heartland North Trail use to have the tire stored under the tongue but I had to take it off as it dragged on the ground all the time. The tire lived in the back of the truck when we camped.

I will try to get a better picture in the next few days. I used my phone for the current pics.

As far as clearance goes, the bottom of the tire is a few inches above the bottom of the A frame rails so I'm not too concerned. I took many measurements to make sure that it would be tucked up under the trailer safely.

The height looks good, should not have issues. My old trailer the tire was under where your batteries are in the picture. Also I have had enclosed underbellies so that covered everything from the bottom of the frame.
