2012 Cougar 328QBS roof & landing dock light question

Does anyone have info regarding the roof on these campers?. We need to reseal it and for whatever reason the info we had for the roof is MIA. We are looking to reseal with Dicor's system.
I've seen where Keystone changed from EDPM to TPO sometime around 2012 we are trying to determine what we likely have?.
The camper was purchased used by us. It's grown a leak that we need to fix.

Also...does anyone else have landing dock lights that refuse to turn off?. They were already replaced once in 2019. My husband is an electronics tech and completely disconnected all visible wiring and switches the last time and they stayed on. They have been on for a month now. We are plugged into shore power so not overly concerned but it could become an issue if we have to go into storage

Well....thanks to a different post elsewhere, we just learned our docking lights can be turned on by the remote! I was able to turn them off.....it appears we've likely turned them on and never knew it!!. Doh!!

There should be a video on the Dicor web site that explains how to tell which type of membrane you have. Glad you got the landing lights figured out.

Yep, beat me to it! Happened to me first time with a remote too.

As for the roof I would bet it's EPDM as my 14 was. Find a place where you can see the edge of the roof material (inside the skylight in the shower is the easiest usually) and look at the material; roof color on one side and black on the other = EPDM. Roof color and white = TPO.

I use the Dicor system as well (roof cleaner then protectant) but that isn't going to fix a leak. What kind of leak do you have and where is it? It's probably on a seam somewhere. In that case, and depending where it is, you need to use Dicor self leveling (or non self leveling) to re-seal the seam after cleaning.

If your roof material isn’t torn and is still white when cleaned, there really isn’t anything needed to it. All you are going to do is make a lot more work for yourself over the long term. Our roof doesn’t leak and has never been under cover. I just check the areas that have sealant where the edges are and where vents go through the roof and reseal as necessary.

Recall one of our more astute members mentioned taking off the facia on a bath fan and looking at the roof material turned under and not visible when the facia is in place. If all white, TPO and if you have a black side, EPDM (at least that is my memory but I am old and get lost sometimes). The products you use on your roof should be appropriate to the material.

Doubt you will find any documentation for which you have on a year when they crossed over roof material as they likely used all of the EPDM until they ran out then went TPO.

You might want to do a search, I found a brochure for my 2014. It says mine is a TPO, but yours might vary.

The only way to KNOW is to look, Keystone brochure's vs hands/eyes on? I'll take eyes on every time. Extremely easy to check and you don't have to worry from now on....which you should if all you did is look at a brochure.

As Danny said, the only way you're going to "know for sure" is to actually "lay eyes on the back of YOUR membrane"... What someone else has is absolutely no assurance that yours is the same. That said, you might have the only EPDM roof in that year or you might have the only TPO roof in that year. Keystone typically uses all of the old materials and then changes over to the new material. They've done that for at least the last 15 years. Looking back at model year changeovers, usually the first 3 or 4 months will have "last year's decor" or "last year's equipment" and sometime "midyear" the new decor, new equipment, new specifications will start to show up at dealership lots.

Here's a link to the pdf file for the 2012 Cougar. https://recreationalvehicles.info/20...stern-edition/

Take a look at page 6 and you'll see the first item reads: "1 One-piece EPDM rubber roof membrane with 12 year warranty"....

Knowing that's what is in the brochure doesn't make it "guaranteed" to be what's on your trailer....

Trust but verify
