Yep unfortunately the numbers don’t lie….may want to try a bumper pull trailer for now and upgrade the truck and go to a fifth wheel later

Youch! That IS awfully low! Even a large bumper pull will push that. Wow.

thinking about 368 MBI. with pin weight of 1980# which would leave me 950# which is not much weight since I have not factored in persons and hitch. could use some advice. some people including the dealerships tell you truck can handle it but I am a little skeptical? other question, I do not have any experience in tailoring but was told bigger rv's are easier to maneuver then smaller or am I biting off more than I can chew? wife wants larger one to accommodate when our grown children and spouses want to come along.any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance. I own a 2007 Dodge 2500 Ram with the 6.7 Cummins Diesel which has had full deletes done, along with improved intake filter setup. It is a 2x4 crew cab long bed. Air Bags installed. It pulls my 35 foot toy hauler with great ease. I get over 30 mpg empty and 14.7 pulling the trailer. The trailer weighs in around 13K. Have the deletes done by a solid operation, no hacks that will save you hundreds.

You have a 2 wheel drive truck that probably has more payload although I wouldn’t want to tow a large fifth wheel with a 2500
Also I didn’t think anyone was doing deletes anymore.

I really don’t get the one person out of 100 who tries to encourage towing overloaded..maybe you can explain so I understand…I am really just curious what the motivation is for that

When someone comes on the forum and asks how to do something safely…why would you want to put them in a iffy situation?

Is it just for the entertainment or drama of posts arguing back and forth?

So sorry for your thoughts of someone being "out to get you". I stated my experiences with my rig that has gone well over 120k without problem one. I take offense at your words and would reply in much stronger terms under other circumstances. Do follow the advice of those telling you to sell your truck and buy another , most likely best path for you now.

Yeah maybe I could have worded it differently… for the sake of the forum and general civility.. although I will say I don’t think it’s good to give unsafe advice on towing overloaded…that’s my opinion.. I’m glad I got to hear some sound ,good safe advice when I joined and found out my truck wasn’t up for the task…and I think you confused me with the op…I already bought another truck 6 months ago..

Funny,
I have a partner with a 2016 Laramie Limited, 6.7 4X4 CC SB MEGA and he’s bound and determined to get a fifth wheel. I walked over with him to check his sticker and his payload is 1763…….

And still says he’s getting a fifth wheel.

So Brian even when you lead some to the water…

For the OP… thanks for asking and taking some great advice from these great folks. I too had a 2500 but in a 5.9l, chipped and deleted bla bla bla and then discovered this forum and also 6 months into my sig truck with a fairly light fiver.

No regrets!!!

Happy camping!!!

Scott

I know a guy that tows a travel trailer with a 3/4 ton…whenever the subject comes up about why I upgraded trucks he gets a bewildered look and doesn’t seem to grasp what I’m saying

Thanks for all the advice and coaching. joining this site really opened my eyes to how much I did not know about trucks and ratings. the more I talk to people at work they are just as clueless about weight limits and capabilities and assume they are good to go because they see that truck can tow 15000# or greater. I will try to sell or trade my 2500 so I can get into the 3500 world and have less worries. if I feel that I am losing money by selling my 2500 I will just get something that will work with that truck, but I will never put my family or someone else's in jeopardy because of my lack of knowledge. Thanks Again all for the valuable information and I will definitely reach out again when I need help..

Good decision... next we will have to work on your photography; after posting the payload placard picture I was still not able to read what it said...

You have been here long enough to understand that full deletes a chip and airbags triple the payload of any truck!
