Since camping is "almost" out of the question this year due to Covid and family reasons, I'm looking at making a kingpin mod to mount a couple of flags. Anyone have any pictures of what they've done?

I used a piece of 1/8" steel plate and bolted it to the top of the kingpin. If I were doing it again, I would probably still use the steel or even aluminum plate cut to size, then buy 4 of the really strong circular magnets with a hole in the center of them and bolt the magnets to the plate and the flag holder to the plate. Here is a pic. of what I did.....

I did similar to what xrated did. I just drilled into the kingpin and tapped them. Simply screw the flag holder onto it. Works perfectly.
I guess I fail to see the benefit of the plate. Am I missing something?

The plate "attached to the pinbox with heavy duty magnets" prevents drilling into the pinbox, possibly weakening that structure. The magnets, attached to the plate, allow for just "attaching the flagpole mount" to the pinbox with no structural modifications..... Easy to remove, easy to change location of the flag pole mount with no "traces of where it was"....

I guarantee here in Yuma your flag would end up in Mexico with magnets attached.
There a grounding magnets for welders that will definitely hold the flag in place, you could likely push the trailer over on it's side with the flag pole even in Yuma.

Just for clarification on my install....I didn't want to drill into the pinbox and risk weakening it. On mine, there were already two holes in the pinbox from the factory.....but they were like 1/2" holes. I couldn't get my arm inside the pinbox enough to reach that area and put a 1/4 - 20 bolt/screw through the holes with oversized washers....plus the holes were like 10" apart from each other. At the time, I didn't think about strong magnets, so I used some very short...Shallow wall anchors/washers and used the existing holes. Since they were so far apart, I just used a metal plate, cut to fit for the holes and the plate is screwed down on the top part of the plate. The opposite side or bottom of the plate rests on some dense foam that I had. The setup gives/allows for a little movement if the wind is blowing hard. Doing it like I did also allows just enough room under the plate for the nuts that are for the screws that hold the flag holder to the plate.

I have been ordering various magnets from them for several years, including an incredibly strong doughnut type to hold a commercial door open. It was scarry strong.
I took a different approach and used my ladder instead. I also improvised a flag pole using a 15' telescoping window washer's pole, and a clamp light for night time. By removing the handle on the pole, and the top screw thread, I was able to put the pole in the holder, and put the flagpole in the other end. Using this method I didn't have to drill any holes to mount my hardware. A tight bungee cord finishes the quick set up. I have found that this arrangement holds up to some pretty breezy conditions.

Never ever heard of a pinbox failure due to flag pole mount or those bubble leveling bars.
Does anyone have evidence of failure?

I don't know that there's a history of pinbox failures (or even a single incident of failure)... But, with a background of working on aircraft, complete with spider cracks and stop-drilled holes, why take the risk if there's an alternative that doesn't present the risk ???
Sort of like choosing between drilling a hole in the hull of a boat to install a depth finder transducer or gluing it above the hull to eliminate the potential leak... If both work equally well, why drill the hole ???
