102" width, no coverage

Picked up our Raptor toyhauler last week from the dealer..... I had to have insurance on the rig for financing purposes. I called my insurance company( AAA of Southern Calif.) to only find out that will not cover units over 96" wide. Ended up calling USAA and they had no problems with the 102" width. Anyone else have this issue?

No, Have not . Have heard there are many roads with max width is 96".

Remember your ladder sticks out about 6 to 8" beyond that
Excellent for catching bushes and limbs, oh also anything near the curb

Yes, I think most of us do take it off when traveling Others learn from experience. When I walk around and see Raptors with no ladder, Have to ask "Where is your Ladder" Well used to have one then there was this tree, edge of garage, etc.

Have to admit it is a pain to store in the garage Our brackets are different so without drilling new holes and patching old we can not easily use the new folding ladder

However a couple years ago some of us discussed other options such as hanging the ladder off the back ramp while traveling. All you need is to buy the standoffs and screw them into the ramp. Ladder will hang on the same support on the roof and does clear our rear awning. I bought standoffs but did not get up the nerve to drill into the ramp

I have not seen that member post recently that suggested and implemented this. A search should bring up pictures as well as part numbers. If I did it I would not climb on the roof while ladder attached to the ramp, although he claimed it was strong enough. One of these days when I poke something/somebody putting that big ladder in the garage you may hear a drill

Some of us don't.

How about you mount it horizontally across the back. Won't have the awning issue.

Maybe cut it in half and add hinges so it fits and is easier to handle?

Most of the time when traveling I try and keep the rear awning rolled up therefore the ladder can be mounted vertically clearing the closed awning.

Yes, have to admit a few times I have considered cutting the ladder into many many many little pieces. Real easy to store

102 inches is the max allowed in the trucking industry. Mirrors and any other safety items are not included. Each state and even some local jurisdictions may have different laws to sweeten their income! Some insurance companies may not even realize the laws on this.

Here in Canada I believe the max width is 108".

The maximum allowable width all across Canada is 101", but that is about the only standard from province to province. Here is some good info if you're in the need for it:
