Main Slide Out
I have a problem with the Main Slide Out on my Montana HC 305RL, it will move out about an inch and stop and make a ratchet noise like the gear is slipping or the chain is off track or slipping anyone else experience this problem?

Well I found out what happen the dealer said the shaft in the motor broke and needs to be replaced. I am thinking of buying a spare and carry in the trailer just in case if I am out somewhere and another goes.

It's great that you found out the cause of your problem and hopefully it's now fixed and you're camping again. As for buying a replacement slide motor, most of the "gear driven ram" type slide motors are $250-$400. That's quite an investment to make for a "spare part", especially since they usually are a very reliable DC motor that "seldom fails"..... In fact, yours is the first "broken shaft" I've heard of and also the first "failed motor" that's been posted in at least a couple of years.

Well it is at the dealer getting fixed but they had to order the Motor and get the ok from Keystone to pay for the fix so I had to cancel the trip and move it out 2 weeks but for $333.64 at TrekwoodRV maybe a cheap insurance if I was out somewhere and one of the slide wouldn't move back in. I don't think you can even override manually with a broken shaft???? What do you think?
Oh when I was at the dealer the Service Manager told me that was the 3rd one that failed last week, he said a couple cam in to checkout their new Motor Home and they moved the slide out and when they were moving it in the motor went out and he used the last one on their motor home so they had none for me so its on order bummer my luck LOL.

Yes, you can "manually over-ride" the slide mechanism with a broken motor shaft. The attachment point on the slide mechanism is the gearbox, not the motor shaft. The manual over-ride doesn't "drive the motor shaft" rather it "drives the gearbox". There's a good depiction of the mechanism on this Lippert website

My trailer has the Accu-slide with a Klauber motor with cables and chain so I think the override is on the back or the motor that drives the motor and turns the shaft and sprockets/gears?
