Breakaway Switch HOT

My breakaway wire got caught on a piece of firewood when I was pulling out from under the camper. It was only out a minute or two until I managed to get it back in (it's behind a fairing of course). The switch part was very hot to the touch I noticed as I was putting it back in. Should it have gotten so hot? I checked it a few times after I put it back together and it cooled off after a few minutes. Wondering if this is normal or do I need to replace it?

The breakaway device mounted on the trailer A frame is nothing more than a spring activated switch that is held open by the plastic pin that's inserted into it. That device should NEVER get hot within a minute or two of the pin being pulled. My guess is that the inside contacts or wiring has corroded or is possibly shorted.

If it were me, I'd replace it before my next trip!!!
