Just got this recall notice. I had already replaced those defective rivets with steel bolts and lock nuts. I assume Keystone would just replace the rivets. Anyone know better?

I haven't seen any affected units so I don't know what the replacement part is.

Thats funny I just had the top left hand side rivet bust this weekend while camping. It happened friday and I was able to place a bolt with lock washer on it to finish my weekend.
I am going to check into this for my 2011 model camper.
thanks,
randy

Randy,

I think your Cougar has the 3 step folding stairs. The recall is for the 4 step (ultra high RV's) that have the "step down" frame.

Even though the recall doesn't apply to many of us, it's a good reminder that rivets do wear and inspecting them in any folding stair unit might just prevent failure and possibly an injury if the rivets on our stairs are worn and break when "grandma or grandpa" steps on them.

I'm going to check mine the next time I unfold the stairs just to be sure.

Just had the recall work done last week. They replaced the rivets in my step with steel bolts and nylon lock nuts, the same as I used when the first rivets broke. Keystone sent the dealer the package to do the work and then sent a frantic notice; "don't use these, need nylon lock nuts". Dealer had the nylon lock nuts on hand and after a few back and forth calls, Keystone said use what you have. What a way to run a railroad.
