Fear of Broken cable - 2012 2850RL Passport
We bought our 2012 Passport from Tacoma RV, in Fife WA last month. After our 1st break in trip of 100 miles we discovered No Jack and No lug wrench plus a few other missing items. We bought all the extras that we should have looked for before buying. BUYER BEWARE. It is not the factory fault if a used RV dealer pulls a fast one by stripping all accessories including the jack.
This is a wonderful unit and a lot of fun....until something break of course.
Now on our second trip from Tacoma, WA to Monterey, CA we find we may have a snapped slide-out cable. When trying to retract the slide back in.., it has a popping sound and jerks. So, we are cutting our vacation short to go home. From the Google research I have learned that others have had the same problem so i may have to retract the slide manually tomorrow morning.
I will repost details of what happened and what the fix was later, as a search of this site did not show any similar issues with this 2850-RL Passport model.

We've owned several TT's and have never had one come with a jack or lug nut tool.

I, for one, would be interested in reading about how the manual retraction of the slide went --- if you ended up having to do that. We don't get much feedback from members who have actually had to crank the slide in or out. Most of us don't even like to think about having to do that!

If you look at the decal by the axles, it says to torque the lugs to a specific value at specific intervals. Cant do it with a lug wrench. And what TV would be without a jack?

I would be interested in hearing about the manual retract as well. I was under the impression that the manual retract was for times when the power failed. The manual retract on mine attaches to the slide out motor and a drill supplies the power. This won't help if the problem is a broken cable.

The only way to crank a cable driven slide in with a broken cable is 4 large men and a small boy pushing from the outside... No cable.... no cranking Keeping it in while traveling is a whole 'nother can of worms.

Manual Crank In Experience
I had an electrical problem with one slide and had to manually retract the room - it was no problem with a drill and 2 flexible extensions. I held them in the middle to keep them from twisting, but the room came in as expected. I did not, however, have a cable problem.

I am a newbie to traveling by trailer, so will take your word for it. Poor deal for a dealer to pass that on to a buyer on a $20k purchase....IMHO..

Don't take it to hard, I've never seen a jack or lug wrench on any trailer I've ever purchased. It just isn't something that is done no matter the price of the trailer. Most folks already have a bottle jack or two in their tool box as well as a socket set and breakover bar.

Nor have I. In fact, now that I think about it, I didn't get a jack or lug wrench with my boat trailer or my utility trailer either. When I bought my farm tractor, I didn't even have an option of a spare tire, jack or lug wrench. And I paid a lot more than $20K for that piece of equipment. Jacks and lug wrenches simply weren't even available from the dealer.
It seems that with the exception of cars and trucks (and only recently on trucks) a spare tire, jack and lug wrench are "standard". When I bought my 1993 Ford F250, the spare tire, tire carrier and rear bumper were all optional.
