Had a look at he roof

Everything looked pretty good. There was some rippling at the front cap and the roof of the cougar 333mks that has me wondering if that is normal. I asked my dealer and he said it is normal.

Anyone else thinks this looks strange ?

Don't know what it is, but it is NOT normal (unless Keystone has hit a new low!).

We have owned three Keystone's and sure don't remember a roof looking like this. I would have another dealer or independent take a look.

Dankent Have just gone through major repairs on the roof of my 2009 Cougar 278 RKS bought in Jan 2010. I was told that the wrinkles in the roof were "not unusual" after sending pictures and an inspection at one of the dealer centres.
The wrinkles got larger and eventually the rubber roof was mostly loose all the way back to the first vent and and on a final trip flopped around like a loose bed sheet.
Sent new pictures to the dealer and of course they didn't have a record of my pictures that I had sent and Keystone wouldn't do anything because the unit was past warranty. Dealer agreed to fix it if I paid half.
As the dealer is over 300 km. away and I had to make two trips, my fuel bill was over $300.
They peeled the rubber roof back to the first vent, re-glued it replaced mouldings, put a 4" strip of tape next to the front moulding and dicor self levelling sealant. After my first trip I still have a few bubbles similar to yours.
Will be sending pictures etc again.
I discussed whole issue with the general manager and he apologized, said they should have fixed it the first time and there would be no cost to me. Still cost me $300 in fuel.
I'm still not convinced the fix will be good.
I had spoken to two other dealers and they said wrinkles are not normal.
A long story but I would be concerned about future problems!

Dankent -

It might be prudent for you to send these photos and any others that you might have to both your dealer and to Keystone. Keep a record of all correspondence, emails, etc. and telephone calls you make to both the dealer and to Keystone. If you take your RV to other dealers or RV repair facilities and ask to have them inspect the roof, be sure to keep a record of their findings.

I wouldn't be put off by someone telling you that it is "normal" and not to worry. Sometimes, a "couple of spots" have a habit of growing into a few larger ones and then before long there is one great big billowing spot.

With just those photos to go by, I would be suspect of the double row of very heavy caulk. It almost looks like some type of repair was already attempted. I would want to know what was under that second row ..... there should not be a seam there. (to my knowledge)

Different construction in the nose cap of my Springdale. However, rippling noted in first month, sent pictures to the dealer, he forwarded them on to Keystone, warranty approved, nose cap replaced. That was almost a year ago, replacement is smooth along all the seams 11 months later.

For yours, if you've not already done this for documentation, take photographs as a pathologist would. Lay down 2 rulers, one to note distance from edge of trailer, the other to show how far back the bubble is now. Doing it in this fashion, you can take another photograph in a month to confirm whether the bubbles are getting larger, indication a progression of the separation. If it is progressing, you have reproducible evidence, hard for dealer or Keystone to deny.

Best of luck. Document. Document. Document.

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions.

We have been told again by the dealer that it is normal and have started the contact with Keystone. Also will be taking pictures this weekend with a few measuring devices to document progression as suggested above.

Thanks again all.

If you are close to the dealer go back and ask to look at the roofs of some other new campers. Then compare your notes (yours verses those). I have been on my roof twice a year since I bought it and mine doesn't look like that at the front cap. Dirty from being parked near some trees but not like that. That looks like a lot of dycor self leveling caulk.

A few ripples is normal. That is not a little, it's a lot. If it was mine I'd keep after the dealer that sold it to me to have it repaired. If he won't cooperate, get on Keystone's case. And yes, keep detailed records, including who you spoke with. Best of luck!

reply from Keystone. ... surprise surprise ...

I guess i will continue to monitor and take measurements and document this till something happens.

------
I hope this message finds you well. I reviewed the issue with my service department and it was determined that the possible issue presented with the roof is normal and it does not jeopardize the integrity of the roof itself and should not pose any problems for your unit.

Ripples on Roof

Our 2013 333MKS has ripples at every seam of the wood underneath and Keystone would not cover under warranty. In addition one of the sheets of plywood was never screwed down, only held down by the skylight and rubber roof. The dealer pealed the rubber back on the sides and screwed down but still warped in the center and said Keystone will not ok proper repairs. I know the roof will not last 10 years. I will never purchase another Keystone.

well didnt get a chance to snap a shot .. had my handsful with a fried circut board. Had to override the board to open the main and kitchen slide ... then had to manually open the bedroom slide since its motor was dead. Also think that motor dying was what caused the circut board to fail. Looks like they are removing my circut board and touch panel and replacing it with the rocker switch bank. Next outing i will get pics of the roof.

It's always wise to inspect your roof often. Just a while back while on the hiway we noticed an approaching 5er with a huge bubble on the front section of his roof. It was at least 2' high and the whole width of his rig. The wind from traveling must have blown it up and the owner obviously had no clue. We couldn't get turned around or I would have chased him down. Poor guy. Lesson learned.

I noticed a small bubble in our last 5th wheel. I mentioned it to the dealer. He said not to worry. The next year returning home from a trip the roof had delaminated and pulled away from the roof vent. A large section of the roof had pulled away from the plywood. I took it to the dealer and they did a temporary repair and said it would have to go back to the factory. They shipped it to the factory (it was a Forest River product). They replaced the entire roof no questions asked. It was the second year of ownership. They repaired a number of other things also at no cost to me.
I now own a Keystone trailer. Not because of poor service from Forest River or the dealer but because I liked the floor plan better. I received outstanding warranty service from Forest River. I was hoping Keystone would be the same.
I don't want to worry you but as others have said keep a close eye on it.
