Dining Table Up or Down for Travel

Hello to all. Just got our new Premier and have already torn the bottom bracket holding the dining table on the wall. Got it fixed with some plastic inserts to make screws fit in holes that are now to big. My Question is what most people do while traveling with the dining table. Do they leave up and only put down when someone uses to sleep or put it down while traveling each time. It is very awkward to lift out of bracket straight up with table being so long. I would just like to leave it up all the time, even on the road. What do most people do? Thanks from the first time RV owner.

Ours is always up no need to add a step when closing up.

We've had many RV's over the years and have never put the table down for traveling. There must have been a problem with yours.

Wow, I was expecting this to go the other way. guess I'm the minority here on this one. My dinette is the type that has two little brackets under the window that two "L" shaped brackets drop down into along the wall with the fold out extension leg on the other end closest to the center of the room.

The dealership told us during the PDI to always put the table down for travel as any major bounces would stress the brackets and pull screws loose either from the wall or the table.

Sounded like it made sense to me, plus by putting it down, I have a large flat cushioned surface to put things on like clothes, pillows, groceries, fishing poles, etc.

We too have a new trailer and was told to keep the table up during travel. Our RV has a U-shaped dinette if this means anything. During our trip from the dealership, the table traveled across the trailer. Since then, we've put the table down during transit. I wish we could keep it up.

I think we have a few different designs going on here ... my are the 2 tube dinnette that have the tubes removed when sleeping on it ... and tubes in when in table mode ... never taken down for travel. But the kind that sit on the wall i would imagine need to be removed for just the reason you were told about stressing the mounts. which model is your trailer ?

Always leave table up. 99.9% sure it would bounce off the bench while travelling.

We travel with the table up, but had to buy a couple of doorstops to hold it in place.

This is the first trailer we have had with the u shaped dinette and a table with a mechanical pedestal. I have to say that I dislike that table base intensely! Every time we get into the seats, we bang our knees on the sharp projections. It is awkward to collapse, so that is why we leave it up during travel. I would love to replace it with something that could manually be taken apart and made into the bed.

On our maiden voyage last week (cougar 28rbh) I left the table up. It fell over in travel striking the wood-finish refrigerator. A slight knick but could have gone much worse. I now travel with mine down. It takes about 10 seconds total to fold it up and position it.

I am changing my plan this year. Always kept the table up and it is the type that has a leg and the other end is hooked to the wall. After leaving it up all year the table sagged so that the wall end and the leg end was height by close to a 1/2 inch. With no supports in the middle this happen so hopefully if we put it down it will stay flat, we shall see.

We have replaced the U dinette with bench seat booth and a much larger table. We leave it up, as it is freestanding. What we did is to get some rubber doorstops to wedge under the cross pieces on the base. Those keep the table from migrating. I also made a padded cover to put on during travel in case the table rubs on the slide wall.

We had the table with the hooks on the wall in our last trailer. Traveled in it for 12 years and never put the table down while on the road. Never had any problems with it, either.

We have had both type tables in our last 2 trailers and traveled with them up and down. We never encountered any movement with either one of them. We have been down some bumpy roads. Now watch - I will leave my table up and it will move this time.
