Raptor 361LEV Landing Gear Problem

Hello all,
I'm currently experiencing a problem with my landing gear (drivers side, lagging leg). The issue is that both side raise and lower fine when the trailer is pinned to the truck. When I'm dropping the trailer and the weight starts to transfer, I eventually blow the 30 amp fuse. I recently replaced the gear box ( I broke it with the manual operator) and have made the following observations. The current is 68 amps when everything is connected, 2.1 amps when the motor is removed from the gearbox and ran, and 25 amps when the lagging side is disconnected from the lead side. I believe there is an issue with the lagging leg and the only way I can get to it is to drop the generator. I'll do this in a few months at the end of the summer if I have to, but right now I want to finish leveling the trailer. My options are to jack it up from the ground or from the truck bed, both with a bottle jack, and drop the legs. What are your thoughts on either? I'd also like to know if anyone has experienced this situation with this leg on the generator side of this or a similar trailer. Thank you in advance.

Keystone had a problem with landing gear overloading the fuses on some of the heavier Montana models several years ago. If I remember correctly, they did a recall to "rewire" the supply line to the landing gear motor. There is a single 30 amp inline fuse. Don't quote me on this, but I believe that they rewired it by adding a second 30 amp inline fuse "in parallel" with the existing fuse.

As I said, don't take my word for it, I don't have time right now to look up the recalls and to research the forum, but it's documented on here "somewhere"....

Also, if you haven't yet, there are zerk fittings on the landing gear and both the drive leg and the follower leg should be greased regularly.

No sir. There's no grease fittings on my landing gear and adding a second fuse in parallel wouldn't do anything but cause me to start blowing them two at a time. I feel like there's an issue with the gears in that leg. I did search for recall information but was unable to find anything. I also found where someone indicated I could get to the slave leg by removing the front panel in my pass through storage without having to drop the generator. That looks as if it may be an option. I'm set up for the summer so I opted to remove my companion hitch and use a bottle jack set up in the truck bed to finish leveling. I'll deal with it when I get the trailer home in a few months. I'll post results then. Thanks for asking.

There is no grease zerk anywhere near my landing gear either. Suppose I've been cheated? I simply cannot imagine Keystone leaving anything out.....

Do you have "auto level" by chance?

So your front jacks are operated manually using a button at the front, and rear has manual scissors jacks?

Mine doesn't auto level. Front jacks up or down with the button or remote, rear stabilizers the same.

Raptor 361LEV Landing Gear Problem

There should be a grease fitting on that style. Mine has two on each leg

Your's also has at least one bolt holding that top cover on and mine has none. I'm guessing they're not the same ones.

Paraptor, Is your landing gear hydraulic or electric motor driven?

Back to the OP's fuse blowing issue, Take a look at the following:

And this thread: http://www.keystoneforums.com/forums...ing+gear+motor

I still can't find that darned thread about the recall for blowing fuses that resulted in the parallel fuse wiring. I'll probably run across it accidentally now that I've given up.....

Our Raptor and I suspect Paraptor's RV have landing gears manufactured by Venture Manufacturing Co. From their owner's manual loaded online: "•Venture landing gear is lifetime lubricated and should never require maintenance." I sure like the look of a grease zerk though.

Thanks JRTJH. I'd found most of these already by searching but a couple I hadn't. I'm gonna enjoy the summer at my current setup and when it's time to bring her home, tackle the issue. I'll post the results on this problem in a few months. For now I'll keep reading. And thanks to everyone offering advice. I really appreciate it.

Hello all. As promised a few months ago, here's the update on the landing gear issue. I did replace it myself once I got the camper home from the summer spot. Getting it on the truck wasn't an issue as the landing gear would go down. I did not have to drop the generator as initially thought. I removed the "front wall" of the pass through storage to access the drivers side leg. It wasn't easy but very doable. The following pics will hopefully help anyone with a similar situation.

This pic is of the pass through storage with the wall installed prior to beginning.

This pic is the wall removed showing the generator enclosure.

This pic shows the existing leg in a very tight space.

These pics are of the new leg purchased from etrailer, showing grease fittings, before and after grease packing. Note the last pic is packed by hand and not the fitting. It was easier.

This pic is the new leg installed with the cross piece installed.
I hope the above information helps anyone facing a similar situation. Thanks for looking.
