Lite camper and big truck

I cannot find the thread on which I had discussed our concern that the 5w would not be heavy enough to push down our springs. When taking it from dealer unloaded it did seem “light” to the boss. After all our desired gear was in place it still seemed light to him. So we took everything out from the only hold as I call it and with the help of our tractor forklift “we” put 650 lbs of tractor weights in there and repacked all the goodies. Also we carry full water tank. It handles so well and feels so “right” to him. Thought I’d share.

I've pulled 17 foot long single axel campers with my truck (F350 DRW) with no issues. I'd remove the extra weight. That isn't doing the camper any good at all.

A bit of a chuckle, OP has a TV sized for their horse hauling, and large GN horse trailers have a bit of hitch weight. I would be careful that you didn't overload the 5er.

Sit in the cockpit of a 747 and then sit in the cockpit of a Cessna 172. Take off is the same crosswinds, attempt to fly through "mild turbulence"... The "seat of the pants feel" is significantly different. No matter how much weight you put in the nose of that tiny plane, it'll NEVER "feel like a 747 in the air".....

Towing a 20,000 pound horse trailer with a 4000 pound pin weight WILL NOT feel the same behind a F450 as a 10000 pound fifth wheel with a 1430 pound pin weight....

A caution: Adding enough "tractor weights to the front of the little fifth wheel" will break the frame/front cantilevered section of the trailer" before you get to the "same feel of a 4000 pound pin"....

It's a tiny trailer, when compared to your horse trailers... Treat it gently, don't slap it with a Clydesdale and expect it to not be "swaybacked and broken" after a couple of towing trips......

TAKE OUT THAT 650 POUNDS OF TRACTOR WEIGHTS !!!!!

Maybe air the rear tires down a little ..would take some of the stiffness out of the bed of the truck.
Does your truck have a lite load air pressure spec? My Ram does or at least my old Ram truck had one.

That or get one of the air ride kingpin attachments.

I didn’t want somebody else to read the OP and think adding a bunch of weight to their camper was a good way to make it ride better. I also wouldn’t want a new owner to think they might have too much truck for their camper.

I got more than one chuckle when pulling up with my 17 foot Summerland Mini behind my 24 foot long dually.

Tractor weights are long gone. Thanks for all the advice. Let’s move on.
