Installed fan for bunk bed
I added a small fan on the upper bunk-bed since my teen was getting hot when he closed the curtain. So far looks good and blows sufficient air. Will see if it works to keep it cool. And moving air. Anyone have any suggestions on what else to do to keep those bunks cool? Texas summers are no joke.(sorry image is sideways, can't rotate on my phone)

I have the same issue. Was thinking of bringing one in from the adjacent bathroom as there is a dedicated AC vent in there and its always freezing but keeping the door open just blocks more air on the bunks. What fan did you use and where did you bring power from?

I used a fan off amazon(AC Infinity AIRPLATE S1) although this past weekend we where in Corpus Christi and was hot out, My son noticed a small difference but not enough air pushed into the bunk. I am thinking of reversing the fan so maybe pushing out the hot air will help. I got the smaller version since the other would be a tight squeeze. I got power from the bottom bunk light.
Thought about running a duct but Its a bigger project that I don't feel I'm inclined to tackle.

You might want to think about reversing the one you added and then adding a second one to pull the cool air in from the bathroom. So one fan pushing out the hot air and another pulling in cool air.
I am with you on not wanting to add a duct. Getting too far beyond my expertise.

Most "cabinet fans will do the job for which they are intended (a small cabinet for audio or video gear). I believe that one is 26 CFM at maximum speed. So if your bunk area is say somewhere between 30-35 cubic feet then it would take over a minute and a half to exchange the air. With the bunk up against an exterior wall, close to the ceiling, I honestly don't think that fan will have the desired efrfect.

I checked on Amazon and they do have a bigger one that moves 52cfm. That probably will do the trick but as Castillo said its bigger. I think if I install it in the wall between bathroom and bunk there will be plenty of room but going to check that out.

You're more than likely correct. It felt great when i was testing it but real world application did not pan out. I am going to reverse the fan so it pulls the heat out. at least it will hopefully move some air and help keep the kiddo somewhat cool when he closes the drapes. Looking for stronger fans that could potentially fit within the hole I made.

I would personally not add a second fan in that small of an area that's blowing in the reverse direction. Air takes the path of least resistance and having 2 fans in close proximity you end up with a "loop" where it blows in then directly back out.

I'd be looking at the existing A/C duct work and see if it's already in the ceiling. If so bore a hole and add a diffuser.

Just a thought: If your boys are like my boys, cutting a hole in the bathroom wall, installing a fan will make a "peep hole" into "mom's shower time"... You might want to rethink cutting holes between the bathroom and a bedroom....

To say nothing of the opportunity for "little brother in the lower bunk" to go in and dump "some mores" without the outside vent fan on.

All good points. A stinky dump will certainly translate through the fan when that is the case. I don’t believe that you can see through the fan so I don’t think peeping is an issue along with my daughter uses the top bunk. I need to see if there is a way to tap into the duct into the bathroom and have it translate into the bunk area before I cut a 5 inch hole in the wall to put this fan in. Work in process.

We full timed in Dallas for 4 years and one AC unit isn't enough. That unit lasted three years and luckily went out when while under warranty. Didn't use a fan on the top bunks since there was no privacy curtain. I do have a homemade log cabin truck camper where a couple of these may help cool it down. Right now we just use it during the spring and the fall.

It atleast came out looking decent but not a solution to my problem. I agree with the bathroom hole. I think it would cause more issues than good and given that our bath isn't ducted it wouldn't work. I think the only way is adding duct into it which is more than what i am capable. So the only solution for now is he's gotta leave that curtain open or be in the heat.
