And we wonder why people tow too much….

Here’s a full page ad from RV magazine. I know payload ratings just keep going up on the newer trucks, but is this really the most responsible way for Chevy to show off their truck? A single rear wheel, 3/4 ton crew cab truck, with a diesel engine, pulling a triple axle toy hauler. Maybe they just realize that no one can replicate that since you can’t find a new truck or RV to save your life right now!

that's not a real photo, its a composite made by the marketing dept. the truck and trailer are photoshopped in. Marketing goes rogue all the time.

on a side note, my 2500 denali (2020) Duramax payload is 3,009. which is about 1,100lbs more then an F250 Diesel

Photo shopped, composite, overlayed, the result is the same. It gives the impression that that truck is capable.

With that little grocery-getter you're running around with you wouldn't even be allowed around the campfire where the big trucks gather. They'd be sending you to get more beer.

Is that what you were looking to get started? If so, go hang out on www.duramaxforum.com. You can buy your bed stack there.

That’s bull$hit. It’s ok to be a fanboy, but it’s like fishing stories. First liar always loses.

What's BS about it? F250 Diesel's have payload of 1,900-2,100 lbs.

Notice how NOBODY with an F250 replied.... because they are most likely OVERWEIGHT.

it's pretty easy to verify, facts are facts.

Only because in 2020 GM, decided to give a "2500" a 11,500# GVWR, in reality it is now a 3500. Still not enough payload to carry a 40' TH.

Correct that it is not enough to carry a 40' TH.... but the "decided to give" statement makes you sound like the others who have looked under their truck, said their 3/4 ton has the same number of leaf springs and number of bolts on the rear pumpkin and say "my truck is the same as the 1 ton, it's just the sticker so I CAN tow that 40' TH". GM clearly went through the engineering analysis to determine the trucks could handle the extra payload... so they didn't just "decide to give".. otherwise you are implying that the demarcation between 3/4 ton and 1 ton is just a sticker decision and there is nothing else behind it.

Gee..... GM recognized that a 3/4 ton Diesel truck with only 2,000lbs payload is actually pretty stupid...... then went out and built a bigger, better, stronger, safer truck with more payload (and to have less people driving around overweight which is so coveted here)

side note: the other manufacturers will follow suit in their next gen trucks very shortly.

I see a ton of people towing with vehicles they shouldn't up here in Washington. Tons of small SUV's, 1/2 ton trucks/SUV's pulling way outside their limits. I've also seen a few of those said vehicle/trailer combos wreck out on the highway right in front of me. Scary stuff.

I have a 2020 Chevy 2500 gasser with 3,453 lbs payload but still I want to stay at 10,000 lbs max GVWR FW for peace of mind and safety.

Well once the GVWR of a truck passes 10,000# then it becomes a Class 3 truck, AKA One Ton. you will need to register as a One Ton, heavier springs, same ride as a One Ton.
Manufactures as just playing games with the Class 2 and Class 3 SRW trucks. Ford will sell you a F350 with a 9,900# GVWR or a 12,400# GVWR. Now GM makes a 2500 with 11,500# GVWR, another reason it is hard to match truck to trailer.

Payload is a "product of mathematics".....

It is derived from the curb weight of the vehicle and the GVWR of the vehicle.

There are only 2 ways (short of helium infusion) to increase payload.

1. reduce the curb weight of the vehicle
2. increase the GVWR.

Short of that, no matter the vehicle manufacturer, it's a "numbers game" by changing truck classifications, taking advantage of state registration rules and playing to the "lack of knowledge" of consumers.....

The long running argument, "A 250/2500 is really a rebadged 350/3500" continues with this new move by GM.....

The more things change, the more they seem the same.....

And I've said it hundreds and hundreds of times.....so I'll make it hundreds and hundreds plus 1. When towing a 5th Wheel Camping trailer, you will almost always run out of payload or CCC on the tow vehicle BEFORE you reach that tow vehicle's "Towing Capacity". It just doesn't seem to sink in with some people and those that don't understand it will usually say, as the first words out of their mouth...."But the trailer only weighs XXXX lbs...even fully loaded, and my truck can tow XXXX (some number that is higher than their trailer GVWR), so what's the problem?"

To end this seemingly never ending subject, perhaps buy a roll of Flex Tape, tear off a little piece and cover that silly yellow white placard in your door frame. Problem solved! Or does everyone thing Eternabond would be better?

Well, since I have a Black truck, I was thinking more about Gorilla Tape in Black...you know, it kind of blends in and certainly ups my coolness factor!

Just take a permanent marker and fill in the number of your choice, then it will be "your truth". See how Ludacris this is? Math is math, it doesn't lie, it doesn't deceive, but PEOPLE will use it to lie and deceive.

Nothing new here.

I once worked for a trucking company that limited the size of invertor to 1000 watts. Well 1000 watts wasn't working for our microwave so I replaced it with a 1500 watt invertor and had a 1000 watt sticker made at the local vinyl shop for $5.....just sayin.....

Truck classifications 2/3 and the arbitrary 10K separation point are antiquated relics of yesteryear like rotary telephones.... so are the designations 1500/2500/3500.

Truck classification mean NOTHING to a non commercial "pickup" truck owner. Petty soon there will be only ONE HD truck designation..... (choose your GVW)
don't worry, you can still get a paper de-rate for those people that need to save the $100 on registration....... pffft

only here... on this forum would the weight police complain about having too much payload. I guess it's going to be hard to tell who's overweight now?
