Wiring two 6 volt batteries in series

Is there an optimum gauge wire size for connecting two 6 volt batteries in series? Our fifth wheel uses 6 gauge in its wiring to the batteries.

Someone may step in and correct me but I think if you have 6 gauge wires from the RV positive and negative then you can have 6 gauge connecting between the pos of one batt and neg of the other to link them together to make a 12 volt cell.
If you have a inverter then I would have a larger interconnecting wire the same size as the inverter pos and neg...mine is 1/0 wires going to the inverter so I increased the inter connection wire to 1/0 and left the rv connections as original .. if it were me I would just go with bigger to start for inter wire

My inverter Charger called for 2/0 less than 5ft so I use 2/0 for my interconnects between the batteries. (Still the 6 gauge back to the DC Center and now disconnected converter)
