Don't know what brand or function those boots had/were but I had a pair very similar when I first began climbing poles. Wore them for a long time when I was on poles everyday. When I transitioned to another job with less pole work I bought a pair of Redwing 8"? (maybe 10 or 12...but shorter than the 16s) which were quite a bit cooler but certainly did not have the support of the taller boots. Still got the shorter pair in the closet and have used them for all kinds of stuff - but then again, I have LOTS of boots of various kinds. My lone pair of "tennis shoes" (other than those to run a river with) are made by Brooks(?) for plantars heel I think it's called.

That's what I did for a living, playing with high voltage electricity, climbing poles as well as working with the underground variety. Bought my first pair in 1973, the last pair about 2009. These are Wesco's, hand made in Oregon.

I used to wear Nocona exclusively, but that was when they were actually made in Nocona. At one time in the 70s they had a mold of my feet so they could make my boots while I was in the Navy. Eventually I outgrew my mold and never had another one made.
Now days I wear a pair of Tony Lamas I picked up at the stockyards in OKC a few years ago. I have wanted some nice handmade boots for a while now but my budget will only allow one pair right now so I will probably get a pair of motorcycle boots made by Gasolina. I tend to go with a tough leather like bull hide so they tend to last quite a while with occasional resoling along the way.

Those might be $800, but those in my closet were about 1/3 of that....although that was many years ago. Nobody will find $800 boots in MY closet.

I just took my Nacona Antique Goatskins off and looked inside.."Made in USA. Now, where is the question. I'm thinking probably El Paso. I believe at one time there was 2 grades of Nacona. One with full cushioned insole and maybe another upgrade or 2.
I think Tecovas are "designed" in Austin and made in Mexico.
All the Ariats I've looked at were Chinese and maybe Indonesia. But what ain't?

Yep it's "click bait". Click on it once and it pops up forever.
They have a suede rough out roper that they claim is waterproof, sounds interesting.

I'm not there yet either.
But the Dow is back over 30,000 and lumber price is $650+.
I need to get some work done while the suns shining. Just got the 5th back from the shop for the blow out damage and discovered a slide seal missing. Two hours on the road to go back and buy 6ft of bulb seal.

I can tell you where they aren't made anymore and that is Nocona, Texas. I lived right at 100 miles from Nocona growing up so that is what I usually wore. Every time I went home on leave I would go down and get a pair, until they closed down. That was a sad day.

From Wiki: "In 1981, Nocona Boots merged with Justin Industries, the then parent company of Justin Boots, bringing the two boot-making companies full circle. In 1999, the Nocona plant was shut down and production moved to El Paso, Texas."

I think that was a family deal. Before I posted this I looked to be sure and yes, it's now owned by Berkshire Hathaway...Warren Buffet.

When I first saw those flat fronted western boots, I thought "what the hell, is that?" For me they have to be the pointy ones.
We only wear our western boots for dancing, so they need to fit really good. Mine feel as comfortable as my custom sized work boots.
Another bigger issue with newer western boots is the material they're with. I was shocked to see the amount of man made material, even with some of the high end boots.

Back in the Air Force in Texas in the sixties I bought a pair of Wellingtons to wear after duty hours and when riding my motorcycle. I was from Ohio but, I envied the cowboy boots that were what real Texans wore.
I liked the Wellingtons for comfort. The other issue was AF enlisted pay at the time was about $150 a month. Enough for beer, laundry and shaving gear. The upscale cowboy boots that you could drive to Dallas to buy were priced out of my pay grade.
I kept the boots for years but didn’t wear them much back home. Rain, snow and road salt would take its toll on the leather.

Lucchese is my favorite.
Bought 3 pair of Lucchese pointy toes back in Texas in the 1980s and still wear them, though not as much. Threw in one pair of Justin's for beating around in the rough stuff. The Luccheses are still like house slippers. No, I also would not have $800 boots in the closet!

I'd go without boots before I'd wear those square toe things

Being from New England, can't speak to the boots but I did like to go camping in a tent at Lake Nocona when I was stationed at Sheppard AFB back in... OMG- like 50 years ago.
I did marry a yellow rose from El Paso 40 years ago, but we met in Connecticut - does that count?
