Water heater and fridge troubles

My wife and I bought a new 21RBH. I took it out west for a three day gopher shoot, then brought it home. The whole time I was out west, I couldn't get the 110 water heater to work. No big deal, I just used propane. When I got it back home, I noticed the little switch hidden behind some other fittings on the outside water heater access hatch.

I had actually looked in there while I was out with the trailer, but missed the switch. I was all set to call the dealer!

I did have to reset it again, after using it on 110, after a move.

Solved that one.

Now for the fridge. It freezes the milk, cream and other items, no matter how low it is set. It has one of the high tech little deals that you just slide down or up. Down for warmer. I slid it down so far it fell off the fin it was attached to. So, I guess I will have to call the dealer. I will re-read the manual first, however.

Anyone have a similar problem?

That's never happened before....NOT! Glad you figured it out and found it. It's amazing how well hid that switch is.

You might try a forum search - somewhere on here there was a post regarding a similar problem. IIRC , if the thermister fails, the control board will default to constant cooling. Don't know if that is the issue - if it is under warranty take it to the dealer?

The "thermistor slide" is typically installed on the far right fin on the refrigerator cooling unit. Sometimes it helps to move it over to the 3rd or 4th fin and try again. If that doesn't adjust your temperature up to an acceptable level so things don't freeze, then I agree, it's probably a failed thermistor or a failed control board. Both are warranty items for the first two years in Dometic refrigerators.

Try moving the "thermistor slide to a fin further left" If that doesn't work, call and make an appointment with your dealer.

Thank you!! I will move it to the left and see how that works. We have the fridge empty right now, but when I get home I will definitely give that a whirl.

I moved the doohinkey to the left about 4 fins. Didn't freeze a couple of bottles of water overnight, so it seems to have worked!

Thanks again for the tip!

I would still stick a Thermometer in there for a few hours and see where you're at.
An even "cooler" way to do it, if you have one, is to stick the wireless sensor from an indoor/outdoor thermometer in there. That way you can monitor the temp without opening the door.
Sealed bottles of water won't freeze until quite a bit below freezing. I think it has to do with the slight pressure they are under when sealed, or the shape of the bottles or something.

In order to freeze, the ice crystal needs a "seed", or something to form around. Bottled water is typically filtered and all that - so there's not much of anything for the ice crystal to form on. So the water instead becomes supercooled - liquid at below freezing temps. If you find such a bottle, you can induce freezing by shaking it hard, or by hitting the bottom of the bottle on the table. The ice crystal will form at the top (around a microbubble that you introduced with the slamming/shaking) and pretty rapidly spread to the bottom of the bottle. have a papertowel handy to wipe off the condensation so you can see it form and run thru the water. It's a pretty neat thing to see. I've done it with 2-liter bottles before. Probably some videos out on u-toob if you're so inclined to see it.

Yea, that darn switch drives me nuts. I've never had an RV where I had to walk outside to turn on the electric water heater. I found today that it has a dedicated circuit on the circuit breaker (which is in the living room) - I think I'm just going to do it that way.

My old Jayco had the switch on the back side of the water heater. I didn't even know it was there for the first 5 years I owned it, had to open the cabinet under the kitchen sink to reach it.
