Cargo Trays?

Wes have a Passport with the front storage compartment which runs the width of the camper. I'm trying to figure out the new way to leverage that space. Mentally, I keep going back to the possibility of some sort of a sliding tray. Has anyone done that in their cargo area? If so, how did you do it and how does it look?

Thanks,
Sean

I use small containers for the little stuff. For the other stuff I just figured out a way to put it in there so it doesn't slide around and I can find it later.

We use plastic tote boxes for most of the stuff. Other stuff just slides in where it will fil. Sliding trays, IMO won't do much for you. You have x amount of cubic space to store stuff. When you load/unload it has to come in/out. Trying to put some sort of "sliding" apparatus in the pass thru would just complicate things....IMO.

Not a tray but a sliding box attached to the frame no lower than the sewer connection ~~ If I were younger I'd build it for my 50 cable amp and FW hose.

Highly recommend one of these adjustable painting poles. If you attach a small roller to it and remove the paint pad you have a strong and adjustable hook to pull things to you or to push them into place. Walmart carries them and are under $20 total. Nice small size when collapsed.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I was considering simple plastic bins, think I am going to go that route

Good quality plastic totes work very well. Easier to keep things organized. I have mine labeled so I don't have to open them to see what's in them. If you measure your pass through storage area you can make good use of the space with the right size totes. I have mine double stacked. One end I had to use smaller tubs because of the control box mounted to the wall. I can reach in and pull them out with no problem.

I've used laundry baskets for years. You can see what's in them. Dump stuff is in a garbage bag lined basket for a couple of reasons.

We use small plastic containers with the folding lids from HD. Small enough that they don't get too heavy and they stack up to 3 high. I can reach them from either side and they are clear so that you can see what is inside. Never had one turn over in transit. I have seen pull-out trays in motorhomes that are usually under the slide-out so you have to get on your knees just to reach the tray to pull it out. Not for me.

When I bought my Bullet last year, I thought about storage totes for everything up on the passthrough. I changed my mind and decided on peg board and hooks. Worked out well so far. I do still use several totes for water hoses and my leveling blocks. My sewer hose has been redirected underneath the trailer and stored in a modified fence post. My mods thread shows some of what I've done to make life easier on the road.

Below is how my passthrough looks.

Those are nice but HEAVY!! I've installed them in Class A motor homes, haven't seen them used in trailers.

We installed one in our SOB 5er and loved it. Mounted a reel on one end to hold the 50 amp power cord.

I've used WalMart rolling underbed storage in the passthrough in my Cougar with good success. WalMart has several different sizes, I bought a size that fits half the width and about half the length. That way I have 4 rolling bins that act as "trays". The bins hold things that need to be dry and clean. I put other items like folding chairs, grill, compressor, etc on top of the rolling bin. They are clear so I can see the contents and they pull out on wheels (although they do need to be supported since they aren't on rails). I pull them part way out to unload the top "layer of cargo" or all the way out if I need inside the bin. Usually less than $20 each, sometimes found in garage sales for $2.

Busterbrown: I really like your idea of the pegboard. This is me off to Lowes to do the same thing.

I use these which can be found at Walmart. They come in clear/translucent so you can see what is stored in them. They have a half height model which is perfect for hoses and when stacked on a full height model fits perfectly right up to the roof of the compartment. The tops are rigid and even with the bouncing around while traveling, they remain stacked. My pass through only goes about 2/3s of the way through before it narrows. In that space, I can fit three full size and three half height containers.
