Angry 2012 sprinter warranty

I purchased a 2012 sprinter 3 years ago and this year during my roof inspection found a small amount cracked cocking on the roof and when I brought it back to the dealer was told that sprinter will not warranty cocking beyond 90 days! what is that, now I have to replace the back cap and have work done ont he roof out of my own pocket, and trust me it is not cheap!!!!! what company in the world willnot warranty their product when it is only 3 years old especially after i have purchased the extended warranty! VERY unhappy with sprinter and their product and wished I had not purchased one. If you are looking at buying a new one...... look somewhere else as they have so little faith inthe quality of their product they will not even back it up. I am telling everyone I meet to stay clear of sprinter as my experience has been horrible.

2012 sprinter warranty

Welcome to the forum.

Pretty much every manufacturer will have instructions in the owners manual outlining the terms of warranty, and I know one is regular inspection of the roof and seams/seals.

If this was your first roof inspection, then I can understand the denial. I instruct buyers to inspect their roof at least once a year and advise twice/yr.

Not knowing how/where your unit is stored, I can tell you first hand that the sealant used on the seams can/will crack with continued exposure to the sun.

FWIW I own a 2012 sprinter and inspect my roof 2-3 times a year. Haven't seen any cracking yet.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Most extended warranties come from secondary companies instead of the OEM. I'm guessing yours is the same way. Verifying the seals including caulking is considered normal maintenance and not usually covered by any manufacturers or extended warranty after a certain period of time. Check the fine print on that extended warranty. If I'm reading your post correctly the cracked caulking has caused damage that needs to be repaired. You might try contacting your insurance company to see if they might cover it. I hope you are able to get things resolved quickly so you can enjoy the camping season.

Not unique to Keystone. Typical requirement is "inspection" every 90 days. If caulking fails outside of 90-day inspections, it's considered a maintenance issue. I've seen manufacturers (non-Keystone) defer to this requirement on complaints before.

The reality is that I'm up on the roof at a minimum every few months. Dicor likes to do strange things and you've got to stay on top of it...

Sorry for your issues also - short of buying an Airstream, you're looking at the same sort of thing on other brands. They pretty much all use the same roof sealing materials.

What they said. It doesn't matter what brand, (Keystone, Forest river, Jayco, ETC.) Periodic inspection and maintenance of the caulking is the owners responsibility.

My Keystone booklet states Once the unit leaves the plant they no longer maintain the roof seams and joints. And further says to inspect the roof every 90 days. Likely once a year is good enough for most. Since that has not happened I hate to think of all those others things and that need inspection such as tires/wheels, brakes and bearings. Anyone who thinks any RV does not need a lot of inspections and maintenance please do not travel on the roads I travel on.
