Removing fir pitch from awning?

Spent the last three days on the Oregon coast under old growth doug fir. Weather was raining and cool so I thought rolling out the awning wouldn't be a problem. Brooming off the fir needles before rolling up the awning and found large patches of pitch. Had no choice but to roll it up and deal with the mess when I got home, so now there's pitch on both sides of the awning. Any ideas on the best way to remove the pitch without damaging the awning?

x2. Would love to know what people use to clean this kind of thing off their awning also.

As a house framing carpenter for the last 27 years I have always used denatured alcohol to remove sap and pitch from my hands and tools. I'm not sure how alcohol would effect the awning.

Pitch

We use Crisco when the dogs get pitch on them. Cheap margarine works, too. Of course you will need some degreaser to remove the residue. With the dogs, we can give them a bath!

Coconut oil removes sap. Also helps rain bead off.
We use it on our pop up and TT.
Happy Camping!

Really appreciate the suggestions! I used WD-40 and it got the job done. Hopefully no long-term negative effects.
