81 south to 15 south

Will be headed to Gettysburg Pa next week from Connecticut. Pretty easy trip to plan out but I'm a little lost when it comes close to Harrisburg PA. What would be the best way to get from 81 south to 15 south We will be staying at Drummer Boy Campground.
Thanks for any and all replies

If it were me, I would take exit 59 off I-81 onto 581 South to exit 5 which will get you onto 15 South. This is just from looking at the map, but looks like the best option to me. We live west of Gettysburg, so have not done the route mentioned. Hopefully someone from the area can give an even better route.

Enjoy Gettysburg. We have camped there many times and it never gets old. There's lots to see and do.

We always took that route traveling from eastern NY down to Gettysburg. When you get on 15 from 581, it's a bit congested for just a mile or two until you turn away from the river at Camp Hill (still on 15.) Then it's 4 lanes through a long commercial district. Lots of traffic, but it flows very well.

We stayed at Drummer Boy twice over the years, each time for a week or so. it's big and busy, but nice. Get a site as far to the east as you can as the road noise from 15 can be a distraction. Still in all, a good place to stay.

You should be fine there. It's very busy, but the roads will accommodate your rig no problem. Be alert for any construction signs.

Last year, coming down 81, just south of Binghamton, we encountered major construction delays where 81 southbound and 17/86 separate. Hopefully, it is all fixed by now.

You can also take exit 70 which is 83 s. Taking exit 59 you actually back track. But that way is a little less congested and smoother road. I live in Harrisburg lol.

We are stopped overnight in NY just north of Binghampton. Headed down I-81 later today. Will report status of I-81 flow and construction this evening.

I am assuming from CT you will come south via 287 to I-78 then west. Going to I-81 and going anywhere near Binghamton is well out of your way.
