23rb AC amperage?

The one manual I don't have from the purchase of my 2014 passport 23rb is the one for the AC. I want to get a generator but don't know what kind of amps it will pull. All the dealer said is you can't run the AC and the microwave at the same time. It's a 30 amp service. Does anyone know the amps this model tt will pull?

Officially, Dometic says that for one air conditioner the minimum size generator is 3500 watts and for two the minimum is 5000 watts. However many people "get by" with a 3100 watt generator which puts out a sustained 2800 watts. Some people claim that they can run their air conditioner on a Honda 2000 which puts out a sustained 1600 watts. Much of that really depends on temperature, altitude and the remaining load within the rec vehicle.

Actually, a 3100 watt generator usually will do what you're asking.... usually. at 2800 watts sustained power, that's 23.3amps. The 13500 BUT Briskaire II compressor is rated at 12.4 amps and the fan is rated at 2.5 amps for a total of around 15 amps for the A/C and of course you'll also be powering the converter so if you've been "dry camping" you will be drawing considerable amperage to recharge the batteries as soon as you apply shore/generator power to the trailer.

But the "official Dometic answer" is 3500 watts.

Great, that's what I thought. From what I read the honda was underpowered for the ac. We will rarely use the ac but when we do it will be hot. Thanks

Just a suggestion. A pair of Honda 2000 watt gens. They can be tethered when you need The oomph for A/C, and it can easier to lift two smaller units instead of one big unit.

Two small Hondas are a bit more than one bigger, lets say Champion. I set up a lift to put my generator in the truck so I'm not lifting, yes the older I get the less I lift, but I find other means for that. My patio is tall enough that I set up an electric winch to lift the generator, I drive under it set it down where I want it and off for the trailer. Smaller generator seem to walk away easier as well. OK, just my .02 worth.
