Did you know?

Tears will dissolve the super glue that you mistake for your eye drops in 24-36 hours.
I learned this from an ER Physician tonight.
No I didn't, however, I do know who did.
NOT my family.

OUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While tears may dissolve superglue that is accidentally dropped into the eye, there remains a significant potential that corneal displacement, damage or even complete disruption of the cornea could result. Superglue is an acid and as such, should it contact the eyes, it is a medical emergency and immediate medical attention should be rendered. I'd urge anyone who might be unfortunate enough to have this occur (or experience a friend/family member to whom this occurs) to get to an emergency room as soon as possible. The physical damage from such an unfortunate accident can easily lead to blindness or permanent vision problems. Don't delay medical treatment because tears "may" resolve the issue in 24 hours. By then, you may be permanently blinded.

Okay,

I have NOT done that superglue thingee, but I DO know someone who did
and she mistook that item for drops she had in her purse. (Why there was
superglue and her eye drops in her purse I will never know).

But she did this about 4 weeks after corneal transplant.............argh.......

I took her right away to my doctor, and he washed out the eye. Picked our
any remaining superglue (along with some eyelashes) and she was fine.

Boy, I was REALLY worried for her though.

And by the way MIKELL, I am blond and I have never done anything like that
but I know a few regular dudes who have done some pretty dumb stuff!

OH BOY!!!!! Watch out mikell, The wrath of Jody will descend upon you. You may need that super-glue to suture the wounds.

A form of superglue is used to close surgical and traumatic wounds. It's not the same as the superglue bought at WalMart, those brands are short chain cyanoacrylate adhesives that can break down too rapidly and release the tissue too early causing wound dehiscence. They can also cause infection from the foreign substances that are produced during their chemical breakdown. Surgical superglue is a specialized long chain cyanoacrylate adhesive especially formulated for medical use and does not have these negative properties.

So, mikell, don't run out to WalMart to get superglue to "bind your wounds" it won't work............. LOL
