Weird tool included with my new 5vr.

- I got the new 291RLS home and spent the weekend going through it and familiarizing myself with it. (It's my 2nd 5vr)

- Anyways, included with all of my manuals and such, there were 2 weird "tools" that I can't figure out what they are?

- They're approx. 12" long made of flexible steel, with female & male hex ends.

- I'm sure someone here knows what they are, and I don't feel like phoning the dealer.

- All help is greatly appreciated!

More than likely they are to get the slideout in when it quits. They just neglect to tell you how to do it.

- Yeah...I'm not sure about that Halibutman?
- Why would I need 2 of them?

- Also, if that's what they are then why wouldn't my OM mention it?

That’s what it is. I got two with mine, but I’m pretty sure they don’t reach, even if connected end to end. Salesguy didn’t know what it was, so I had to ask the parts guy.

I hope I never have to figure out how to use them because *nobody* seems to know. It’s a *long* reach over my slide to the slide motor, and I’d probably have to disassemble some trim.

- So am I supposed to hook them to a cordless drill or something?
- I'll have to have another look, and then make the dreaded call to the Dealer where I bought.

The previous posters were correct ----- that "tool" is to attach to your manual slide override. If you don't know where this manual slide override is, then the tool becomes useless. You might first find out where the mechanical override is located by looking yourself or make the "dreaded call" to your dealer. Hopefully, someone at your dealership will be able to tell you where it is located and how to use this tool to move the slide in or out should the need arise.
Why am I not surprised that nobody brought this to your attention when you did your walk-through and PDI? If you didn't inquire as to how you would move the slide in case of some electrical/battery failure, then your dealer should have told you.

III. Service Procedures BAL Accu-Slide™ System
3.04 MANUALLY MOVING THE ROOM
1. Locate the included flexible shaft in your owner's packet.
2. Attach flexible shaft to the 1/4" hex fitting on the end of the motor.
3. Attach 1/4" socket & ratchet, or drill to the other end, and turn in the proper direction to
move the room.
4. If the cables tighten, and the motor is difficult to turn, REVERSE THE DIRECTION.
Over-torquing can happen, resulting in severe damage.

I'm pretty sure some trim must be removed and you need long skinny arms.

Hopefully your sure about part one of your question now. As to the second part of your question.... by the time they got done putting 400 pages of warnings in the OM because we have evolved in to a, "you can sue for anything society", it would have cost to much to put real operating information in.

Halibutman is right. The lawyers have written the manual. take out the "you could be electrocuted mammed killed deformed turned into roadkill if you replace the light bulb" and the owners maual would be 5 pages. my owners manual for my 1978 saab is 30 pages and includes a wiring diagram. the maual for my dodge is 300 pages. yes the tools are for your slide out like evry one has said. and they would work great if nothing was in the way.

We got two with ours as well and figured it was one for each slide. At first blush seems silly as you'd just be doing one at a time, but maybe the intention of Keystone is that two people could be hand-ratcheting these things at the same time. All speculation, but...

The tools are supplied by the manufacturer of the slide and Keystone just passes them along. Just like the little blue clips to hold your fridge door open.

Mine was tie-wrapped to the motor assembly.
