Inverter power consumption

I’m trying to figure out how long my battery can run an inverter. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this:
If I have a 1000W inverter, that’s roughly 8 amps, right? 1000W / 120V = 8.333A

The smaller Interstate deep cycle 12V batteries look like they can run 8 amps for about 9 hours. Is that considered 72 Amp Hours (if these batteries are even rated like that)?

How am I doing so far? Does this mean that I can run a full load on a fully charged healthy battery for 9 hours in a perfect world? I understand that the inverter has some overhead, so it’d be correspondingly less than 9 hours.

I don’t need that much capacity, but I’m just trying to see what my options are for running sub-kilowatt devices while not plugged in to shore power.

Awesome! Thanks. That makes more sense. I guess I’m off because the 1000 watts should have its current calculated from the 12V.

It depends how much of that 1000W you are using. In and of itself with nothing hooked up to it my inverter draws less than an amp.

After that, wattage=volts X amps.......

So, if you plug in a 60 watt light bulb it will draw 60/12=5A.......

Once again I have installed one of these:

http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...ems+AC+Ammeter

They are VERY easy to install and it allows you to manage your AC load, which keeps you from overloading your inverter, or genny.

I also have a battery condition monitor, which tells me what the draw, or charge on my batteries is. These are a little harder to install but now I have complete vital signs on my electrics.

And, with them I have proven that the above formula is actually correct.....

Oscar, Howdy;

You reminded me of a Math teacher I once had;

Give the explanation in Multiplication and show the example in Dividion ... NEW MATH ...
