I recently did the same thing but stuck with 6.0 gasser. I simply don't tow enough to justify diesel. I will say that my new ride is one sweet truck. I look forward to hooking up the fiver in the spring.
Congrats on your new rig.

Good idea. Having more TV than you need increases the safety factor which is 'always' a good thing .

Thanks everyone for the great support. We just P/U the truck this afternoon, there was a delay getting from the other dealer. Just brought home, all I can say it's alot of truck. The load sticker shows max cargo wgt 4995lbs. The spray liner goes in Fri the hitch setup next Tue and were off for three weeks starting the 23rd we can't wait. This truck came with the brake controler built into the dash. Does anyone have this on there's and if so how do you like it?

It works as well as my Prodigy did...that's the best compliment I can give a brake controller. Set it and forget it!

Love the built-in controller. Since it's tied directly into the TV System it knows exactly what the TV is doing and can control the 5er accordingly. I now have a P2 sitting home collecting dust.

It's in our 2011 and it's a welcome factory addition. I've set ours at 6 and the trailer brakes grab okay. Book says to roll about 15-20 mph and manually grab the trailer brake. They should be just short of locking up. When you find the lock-up number on the brake controller, back off half to a full number and that should be your initial setting.

2500HD for 3500HD

HI

Congrats on the new truck, was wondering the 2500HD you had was it diesel or gas.

We have a 2500HD diesel and going to be pulling our new Alpine 3500RE. I really hope I haven't over extended myself with my pulling capacity. When I read the specs of the truck vs the weight of the new fifth wheel I was within my margins.

Thanks

I just got my GMC a couple of months ago, haven't towed the raptor yet, but other trailers, the built in controlers are great, had one in my 2010 dodge dually, and now one in my GMC, you'll like it.

Have a 2011 2500 diesel pulling a 343RL. Love it about; 1/3 better mileage than the 1500 gasser pulling a lighter trailer!
Love the in dash brake controller; mine is set at 3.5 and seems to be the sweet setting for my set up!
Regarding going from 2500 to 3500 drivers license--I have done considerable checking here in PA ,and a few campers confirmed, same is true in a few other states. If you add the GVWR of the 3500 + the GVWR of the trailer and it exceeds 26ooo you must have a non commercial CDL license.
I was going to get the 3500 until a dealer active in a State truck drivers org. of some kind told me of this. I eventually did find it on the PA website. One fellow said he found out the hard way he had an accident and was cited with operating that combo with no valid drivers license. He is trying to get his insurance company to pay for the accident as he was driving without a valid license and his policy said no coverage without a valid drivers license.
I drove a 3500 and loved it more than the 2500 and considered it is bigger to park in standard parking spaces with exteded cab and width. Wife and I thought it rode better than a Caddy!

GM brake controler works great, I have mine set at 6.5. It also works in conjunction with anti lock system and will pulse the trailer brakes if necessary.
