Grease for 5th wheel hitch
Just picked up my 2017 F350 dually with the Ford 5th wheel hitch (actually a Reese hitch). There doesn't appear to be any grease on it. Should I grease it? If so, with what and where? Or, will the RV dealer grease it when I go pick up the 5th wheel on Wednesday? Newbies -- gotta love us!

If your talking about the plate that the trailer pin box will sit on (horse shoe) don't use grease. Use a lube plate, should be less than $20.00 at the dealers parts department.

I believe your hitch is the same as the Reese R20. If not, you can go to the Reese website and download the maintenance manual for any of their products, but this link will direct you to the maintenance manual for the R20. It is the same (except for the legs/base) as your hitch and the lube points, lube recommendations should be the same.

The nylon plates spoken of earlier are available at most RV places, even Camping World has them for less than $10.00. No grease at all, just the nylon plate.

I have just used the nylon plate with my f350/Reese hitch and I have had no problems or wear. Earlier this year when we up graded to our Sprinter it was the first purchase I made and installed.

When I had my 5er always used the graphite impregnated discs. Cheap and did the job.

Endorse use of the lube plate, but I grease the pin itself to cover where the hitch jaws make contact.

There are several points on the hitch that require grease including a zerk fitting at the top center of the plate.. I suggest a heavy lithium grease...
Here is the book.. http://www.reeseprod.com/support/ins...ion/N30142.pdf
P.S. Use a plate
