Silly question...Can I plug our Cougar 284RDB into 50 amp

We are in a spot, a fairgrounds, that has only 15a and 50 service. Should we relocation to a 30a spot...

You can get a adapter to go from a 50 amp to a 30 amp
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...a-female/27987
Or a place that sells Rv parts

Yes you can do it but you do have to have that adapter to go from 50 amp to 30 amp. Your plug won't even fit without the adapter.

Always something needed... We hook up to 50 with an adapter whenever it is available. Usually less used than the 30 amp.

msubobcats, Howdy;

Been livin' in a site with 50 and an adapter or over a year now.
I keep the joint between the adapter wrapped with electrical tape
to keep moisture out.

Went over to the RV Dealer in Yuba City and got the big honkin' adapter. I had seen contractors use them but really had not looked at them. And "learnt" a little electrical knowledge from the salesman about how the adapters kick down the juice.
Now down the road we will probably get the 30a adapter.
Thanks to all.

We've been RV'ing for years and have always carried a variety of adapters. 30>50, 30>15, 50>30 etc. That way no matter what service is available, I can always "plug in".

Just remember that it is better to go up then down. ie: camper is 30a but you are using the 50a service. The 50a service will provide all the juice your RV needs. If you go the other way, camper is 30a but you plug into a 15a service you probably won't be able to use the AC AND the Micro at the same time. Just not enough power available that way.

I hate to sound like a sales pitch here, but I would also highly recommend getting an RV surge protector.

http://www.campingworld.com/category...-protectors/98

One of these saved me from a bad power surge recently. Blew out the surge guard, but the RV was intact. I'll never hook to a campsite post without one now.

My neighbor uses a 50>15 to top off his batteries. I offered my batter charger but he refused...

Not sure what the salesman was telling you by saying the adapters "kick down the juice", but all the 50 amp to 30 amp adapter does is pick one 50 amp leg, along with the ground and neutral legs to feed the 30 amp female socket on the adapter. There is no magic inside the adapter.

It magically makes 120v disappear!

I was just surprised how they did the conversion. It does make sense because that is how you get either 120 or 240.

I'm telling you man, the 30a adapter is the way to go. It will be one of the best things you get for your RV. I read up on RV Surge Protector information before getting mine. I really wanted to be informed before making such a purchase. But it turned out well

Best of luck,

Mike
