Yesterdays' activities

I installed the steadyfast system yesterday.

It was not overly complicated, but the instructions were.

Lots of pages, with forward and backward references, seemed to me like they could have done a better job with them, with a lot less pages.

The system is awesome though, very high quality materials and after I got it all installed I had the DW come check the trailer movement, then I went out and unlocked them... the difference was really amazing, I feel like it was money and time well spent.

I also installed a Camco screen door cross bar, it should have come from the factory with one.

Happy Camping,

-Brian

I installed my SteadyFast system two years ago and have been very happy with it. The fronts work so well that I've no inclination to install the rear stabilizer.
I also did the Camco Door Bar last year. The DW said "We don't need that, you wasted your money." A weekend of camping changed her mind. It's just easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

Camco screen door cross bar

I was just about to install the cross bar until I noticed that it would require me to cut out part of the door frame. That I was not willing to do right now as it would most likely void the warranty. Did you have to make that adjustment to get the bar to fit? Thanks.

A friend of mine just traded his Outback in for an Open Range. Looking at it, it came with the steadfast system already installed. Will have to check it out this weekend.

Does anyone have pics of the installation?

I did not have to make any modifications, to get the cross bar to fit.

I held it up to the screen door, while it was closed and marked the screw holes.

Here are some pictures of it

Camco screen door cross bar

Thanks for the pictures Brian. Unfortunately, since it appears that my door is not centered, I have two choices. I can cut out a bit of the interior door frame or see if I can adjust/rehang the door on the center and bottom hinges. As it stands now, the screw holes on the left side of the bar slightly overlap the channel for the spline. Nothing is ever easy!

Why not get a small piece of aluminum stock (.032" x 1.0"x 2.5" and screw that to the door frame, then mount the crossbar to that stock? That way you would be "moving the crossbar attachment" inward and away from the door frame where space is limited? The stock is sold at almost every hardware store in the "extrusion/metal section" (where the metal plates and screw stock is sold).

I bought and installed one but don't think it was the same brand. Mine was adjustable to get the length right. Sorry no pics at the moment.

Yes, mine was adjustable for length too, I measured for length and then held it up to the door to mark the holes to mount it.

Love the screen door bars as well. We put two on ours a couple of years ago. One is in the middle of the screened section at the bottom half of the door as the grandkids are that perfect height to lean against the screen...problem solved. And it also works great as an extra hand hold for going up and down the outside stairs.

Screen door cross bar

Finally got it up. The darn door wasn't centered so there was just barely enough room on the left side of the door to drill the holes. The DH wanted to cut into the black frame/doorjamb, but I wasn't having that. I waited until he was on the road for a few days and did it myself . Next up - making pocket storage for the bottom of the bed or a clothesline rack from a reclaimed SS bimini top.
