Yellowstone campground suggestions?

DW wants to go to Yellowstone in August. I was told to make reservations in advance. I do not have a clue of where to go or who to call. I'm hoping someone here can make a suggestion.
Thanks

We have stayed in West Yellowstone at the Grizzly RV Park. Very nice CG with wide, level spots and plenty of grass. There is a playground, a nice store (you can buy ground buffalo meat to grill) and the CG personnel are very friendly and helpful. The park is only about .5 miles from the west entrance. Do a forum search as there have been several threads describing the different parks in this and other areas of the park.

Yellowstone

Thanks for the info. I did a forum search and found something on Fishing Bridge campground. I will keep looking to see what options are available.
Thanks for your help.

We have reservations for Grizzly and Fishing Bridge the last of July into the first of August. I think we will stay at Grizzly but might go to Fishing Bridge for part of the trip. I will cancel what we don't need when it gets closer.

Jackson hole

Still working out the details.
Heard a lot of good things about Jackson Hole also.
But I'm still zeroing in on Fishing Bridge, sometime early August.
Thanks for the info.

we camped in Yellowstone last June, in a travel trailer. We came in the north entrance through Gardiner and stayed in Mammoth Hot Springs campground. No services, thus dry camping. It is a first come, first served. We went in Tuesday morning and got one of the last spots, The CG was full by 1:00. We looked at most of the campgrounds in the park, the only other one we would have considered was on the other end of the park, nearer to Old Faithful. One park, and I'm sorry I can't remember which, was more like a parking lot. I don't think I've ever seen sites located so close together. Not our thing for sure. For some reason I"m thinking it was the only park with services. That may have been Fishing Bridge. If you don't mind being that close - you might like it. We got along fine running on just battery for three nights. Used portable led lights. For wildlife viewing, Mammoth and Lamar valley are the best areas, but in August, most of the wildlife will be in the high country. We were there the second week in June, which is pretty early. But one of the best times to see the animals. The other end of the park, near Old Faithful has all of the geysers and hot pots.

There is a great site RV Park Review where you can find useful information on parks all over the country. I think most of the Yellowstone parks are rated there.

If we go back, we will probably consider a park outside , maybe west yellowstone. If they aren't too close together there too. Otherwise I'll figure out which park the other one was, but I'm pretty sure it can't be reserved...

Wink fishing bridge

Thanks for the insight.
DW can't do without electricity, so just booked Fishing Bridge for late August.
Close campsites is not my thing either, but it was the only spot with utilities.
As long as the neighbors don't complain about the smell, I'm okay.

We stayed at fishing bridge last August. Yes the sites are close, but we left at daybreak and returned at dusk. Good central location and with full hookups we didn't need to use their toilets or showers. When in yellowstone be prepared to drive a lot and plan at least five days to just get around most of the park. Tetons is a must see. Next time I think we will spend a few days in the Jackson Hole area, before going into Yellowstone.

Enjoy your trip!

Since it looks like you are coming from east of the park, I will tell you not to miss Cody, Wyoming and the Buffalo Bill Museum on your way coming or going. We spent two days just at the museum. Very worthwhile.

Madison is the other cg we liked, and would consider I agree with the comment about being gone all day, and with all the driving you will do, so perhaps being so close together wouldn't be too bad. everyone has their preferences. we were gone all day also, which is why we could manage on battery and dry camping.

We stayed at fishing bridge three years ago and it was great to be near the center of the Park. Next time we will stay outside the park because it was very tight for our old RV. I came home one evening and the idiot beside me had blocked my door with his slide so I couldn't get in! good thing he was there and he moved his coach. He had already wrecked his mudflaps and tailpipe backing over the stops at the rear of his site and still went 10 feet further. Now with the 310RET we just won't fit. Some great spots just outside the park. If your rig fits into Fishing Bridge, you will have a great time there.

YellowStone

Hi we have stayed at Fishing Bridge twice, we did all the hot springs and old faithfull the first time but we liked the animals best! Fishing Bridge is tight but you can get a big rig in on some of the end spots we saw 40'ers on some spots!! they were end to end of the lot! Our 31'er was no problem just can't put out awning because of a tree. We left before dawn to see the animals, Haden, Lamar are great areas for Bears and Wolves,we saw Grizzly right down from fishing bridge watched him eating an elk for 5 hrs then walk right around Indian Pond right by us and cross the road then into woods that goes toward campground!

Here's some of the Elk we saw down by Fishing Bridge

Wolves!!

I will second the suggestion on the museum in Cody. The last time we were there we purchased our entry tickets the day before and were able to get in late that day as well as the next. This gives you a chance to get a feel for the place before your full day visit.
We also found the Trail Town museum interesting. As I recall it is about 5 miles west of town.
