Firestone Airbags Question

I just installed the Firestone Airbags (F2250) on my 3500HD. I also added the Firestone Level Command - Single-Gauge w/ Heavy-Duty Compressor (F2097).

Everything works great except for the gauge back light. I can't seem to find a fuse where the back light won't come on unless the key is in the ignition.

The gauge has two black wires, one to ground and one to the fuse box for the back light. It doesn't say or show which goes to which. Could I have them reversed?

If it's an incandescent "glow lamp" it won't matter which way the current flows through the bulb, if it's an LED, it wouldn't illuminate unless the current flow is correct, so if it comes on at all, the polarity is correct. There are several choices to "tap in" on the fuse panel. The ACC or the RADIO fuse are two that would probably be wired into the accessory or run sides of the fuse panel.

My gauges backlights are wired to the dash light fuse, so they come on with the headlight switch.

I have my gauge light's spliced into the headlight switch, you can do a search for your year truck and you can find out what color wire too look for. If I remember correctly mine was a blue wire with a pink trace.

Thanks for the replies. The backlight is incandescent. I ordered a fuse tap. I'll try it again with that. Before, I was just trying to jam the wire in the fuse slot with the fuse. Ideally, I'd like to tap the dash light fuse.

The fuse tap worked. However, there is a hot side to the fuse. I did not know this.
