Very good detailed information. Just what I was looking for. I have a little Black and Decker random orbital polisher that turns at 4400 rpm. Is this appropriate or should I just get something better? Any recommendations? Thanks for your help.

Before using anything aggressive that will harm the finish, I would give this product a try:

Top Gun Ultra Finish: Spruce P/N 09-00192

Google Aircraft Spruce and search the PN.

It will remove the oxidation from aircraft paint jobs (usually urethane paint) without harming the finish. It can also be used on the plexiglass windows and to polish the aluminum prop spinner. I use it on all my vehicles with great success.

They used to advertise that it was used on Air Force One...at least during the Bush administration. So if it doesn't work, there's one more blame on him.

Removing tongue from cheek...

The B&D is not very powerful and does not turn fast enough for a DA to be very effective. You are looking for something more in the range of 6000 oscillations per minute (OPM). I have a Porter Cable 7424 XP and a Flex XC 3401 VRG. The Flex is a much more powerful tool and my preference, but it comes at a price (over $300). The PC is a nice machine and just over $100. Of course you will have around $300 total invested by the time you get pads, compounds and polishes, but you will have the tools you need for future care...you can also use it on your car and TV (use the whit pads and one step product). If you get the PC, stay with 5" or smaller pads. The Flex will work great with the 5" pads as well, but has enough power to step p to 6-6.5" pad, it's just more work to control with the larger pad.

You will not damage your finish with this set up, you are simply substituting the elbow grease with a DA polisher.

Feel free to PM me as well.

Just wondering how things are going with the oxidation removal.
